SignWell

Electronic signature service priced per sender, with unlimited documents on paid plans

As of 30 August 2026, SignWell has a free plan and paid plans start at $10/month. Upload a document, place fields, send it for signature and get back a signed copy with an audit trail. Softwr lists it under Productivity.

Overview

What SignWell does

SignWell is an electronic signature service, previously called Docsketch. You upload a PDF or document, drag signature, date and text fields onto it, send it to one or more people, and receive the completed document with an audit trail and a completion certificate. Signers do not need an account and are never charged. It runs in a browser, with an API for embedding signing into your own product and a monthly allowance of free API documents on every tier. The free plan allows three documents a month, one sender and one template, which makes it a trial with no clock rather than a tier anyone runs a business on. What distinguishes it is the shape of the pricing rather than the feature list. Licensing is per sender with unlimited documents from the first paid tier, where much of the category meters envelopes. For a small business sending a steady flow of contracts from two or three people, that difference compounds every month, and it is the entire commercial argument for choosing a smaller provider over the obvious one. It is bought by small businesses, agencies, recruiters, and property and legal practices with a handful of senders. The trade-off is vendor size against document lifespan. Signed agreements have to be produceable years later, sometimes in a dispute, and where the market leader is a default nobody questions, a smaller provider means you carry that argument yourself. The correct practice is to download every signed document and its audit certificate into your own storage rather than treating the account as the system of record, which incidentally makes leaving cheap: the documents are ordinary PDFs. What does not move is your templates and everything built on them.

What people use it for

  • A small business sending a steady flow of contracts from one or two people, where per-envelope pricing elsewhere adds up faster than a seat would.
  • Replacing print, sign and scan for client agreements, offers of employment and consent forms.
  • Embedding signing into your own product through the API without committing to enterprise pricing first.
  • Repeated onboarding paperwork sent from a template with automatic chasing rather than manual reminders.

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about SignWell.

  • The free plan stops at three documents a month, which makes it a trial rather than a tier, so any genuine use converts to a paid seat within weeks.
  • Pricing is per sender, so an organisation where many people occasionally need to send something either buys seats for staff who send a handful of documents a year or funnels everything through one person and creates a bottleneck.
  • Templates are rationed by tier, at one on free and five per sender on the entry plan, and templates are what makes the tool worth using at all, so the practical entry point is a tier above the headline price.
  • It is a smaller vendor in a category where signed agreements must be retrievable years later, so the safe practice is downloading every signed document and its audit certificate into your own storage rather than relying on the account still existing.
  • It provides standard electronic signatures rather than acting as a qualified trust service provider, so any transaction requiring a qualified electronic signature under European rules needs a different supplier alongside it.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Do signers need an account or a licence?

No. Recipients open a link, sign and are done, with no account and no cost. You pay only for the people who send documents.

What does the free plan actually allow?

Three documents a month, one sender and one template, along with a small monthly allowance of API documents. It does not include custom branding or bulk send.

Is an electronic signature legally binding?

Electronic signatures are recognised for most commercial agreements under the relevant American and European frameworks, and SignWell records an audit trail. Certain instruments are excluded by statute, and anything requiring a qualified signature needs a qualified provider.

How hard is it to leave?

The signed documents are ordinary PDFs you can download with their certificates, so the records move easily. Your templates and the workflows built around them do not.
