Braze: Better when the priority is real-time journey orchestration rather than measured retention uplift

Retention marketing platform that forces control groups and reports uplift per customer
As of 31 August 2026, Optimove's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Optimove is built around measuring whether campaigns caused anything, using mandatory holdout groups on every campaign and per-customer uplift reporting. Softwr lists it under Marketing. Optimove is available on Web, iOS, Android, REST API.
Overview
Optimove was founded in Tel Aviv in 2009 and sells customer retention marketing: it ingests customer-level transaction and behaviour data, builds statistical models of customer lifecycle stages, and orchestrates campaigns across email, push, SMS, in-app and paid audiences. Mobile push and in-app came largely through the acquisition of Kumulos in 2022. The system is organised around micro-segments defined by lifecycle stage and value rather than around lists. The distinguishing behaviour is measurement discipline. Every campaign runs with a control group by default and the platform reports incremental revenue per customer against that control, which changes the internal conversation from open rates to attributable margin. That is commercially decisive for teams whose budget has to be defended quarterly, and it is also why the platform is priced on the number of tracked customers rather than on messages sent. The corollary is that the numbers are only as good as the customer-level data feed, and building that feed is the real implementation project. Buyers are retention teams in regulated and high-frequency verticals: iGaming and lottery operators above all, then subscription retail, financial services and gaming. The trade-off is the prerequisite. You need a customer-level data source with transactions, and the mapping work before launch typically runs into weeks. Teams looking for a quick campaign tool with drag-and-drop templates will find the modelling layer heavy and the interface dense.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Optimove.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Because uplift is the reported metric. Without a holdout the platform cannot attribute revenue, and the reporting that justifies the licence stops working.
No, but that is where its density of customers and its default lifecycle models are strongest. Subscription retail and financial services are the other common verticals.
It orchestrates and personalises, then sends through connected delivery infrastructure. Deliverability remains a shared responsibility with that provider.
