Humaans

API-first HRIS for fast-growing companies that treat employee data as a system of record other tools read from

As of 31 August 2026, Humaans's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A deliberately fast, keyboard-driven HR system built for 20 to 500 person companies that want clean employee data and a real API rather than an all-in-one suite. Softwr lists it under HR. Humaans is made by Humaans, part of Employment Hero, available on Web.

Overview

What Humaans does

Humaans is a London-built HRIS founded in 2020 covering employee records, onboarding, documents, time off, compensation history, custom fields and workflows. It was designed around speed and data structure: the interface responds instantly, records are modelled with typed custom fields, and everything in the product is available through a documented REST API and webhooks. The distinguishing decision is that Humaans does not try to be the suite. There is no payroll engine, no applicant tracking and no learning module. Instead it positions as the authoritative employee record that pushes into payroll, identity, finance and access management systems, which is exactly what a technically capable operations team wants and exactly what a company looking for one vendor does not. That choice made it fast to implement, typically weeks rather than months, and it made the integration and API quality load-bearing rather than decorative. In 2024 Humaans was acquired by Employment Hero, an Australian employment platform with its own payroll and hiring products. That is the fact that should change a shortlist: the standalone, integration-first positioning now sits inside a company whose commercial interest is selling a bundled employment platform. Buyers today are scale-ups of 20 to 500 employees, often with operations teams that will write against the API. The trade-off is that payroll, benefits and compliance in each country remain someone else to buy and integrate.

What people use it for

  • A 150 person technology company that wants employee data clean enough to drive access provisioning automatically
  • An operations team that will build against an API rather than wait for a vendor integration
  • A company replacing spreadsheets and Google Drive folders in weeks rather than running a six month HRIS project
  • A multi-country employer that already has payroll handled per country and needs one consolidated employee record

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Humaans.

  • There is no payroll engine anywhere in the product, so every country you employ in still needs its own payroll vendor and a synchronisation that someone owns when it breaks.
  • Applicant tracking, learning and benefits administration are absent, meaning a company wanting a single supplier will buy three or four contracts to match what a suite sells as one.
  • Acquisition by Employment Hero in 2024 puts an independent, integration-first product inside a vendor that sells a bundled employment platform, and buyers should ask directly how long the standalone product will be sold on its own terms.
  • Per employee per month pricing with tiered features means the cost rises with headcount growth at exactly the point a scale-up is least willing to renegotiate, and useful features such as workflows sit above the entry tier.
  • Country-specific compliance depth is limited, so statutory leave rules, local document requirements and reporting obligations often need configuring by hand rather than arriving as a maintained country pack.

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Does Humaans run payroll?

No. It holds the employee record and pushes data to payroll providers. You buy payroll separately in each country.

Who owns it now?

Employment Hero acquired Humaans in 2024. It continues to be sold, but the parent company also sells a bundled employment platform.

Is the API genuinely complete?

Yes. It is the design centre of the product rather than an afterthought, with documented REST endpoints and webhooks across the core objects.

How long does implementation take?

Typically weeks. There is no configuration consultancy requirement, which is a large part of why teams choose it over a mid-market suite.
