The short version

  • Each has a real cost: Adaptive revenue-band pricing means a company with high turnover and thin margins, such as a materials-heavy trade, pays as if it were far more profitable than it is, and there is no seat-count lever to bring the cost down.; Propeller Aero platform pricing is not published and is scoped by sites and users, so a contractor with many short-lived sites can be quoted very differently from one with a few long ones, and neither can benchmark against a list price
  • They diverge on capability: Adaptive covers AI invoice capture, Propeller Aero covers Photogrammetric processing.
  • Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

Adaptive

  • A specialty contractor drowning in vendor invoices that need coding to cost codes, where the bookkeeper is the bottleneck on closing the monthnot Propeller Aero
  • A general contractor with dozens of project managers who all need to approve costs, and for whom per-seat construction ERP pricing is the reason field approval never got rolled outnot Propeller Aero

  • A contractor whose lender or bonding agent wants a monthly WIP schedule that reconciles to the ledger without a two-day spreadsheet exercisenot Propeller Aero

Propeller Aero

  • A quarry that reconciles stockpile inventory monthly for its accounts and wants the volume evidence to survive an auditnot Adaptive
  • An earthworks contractor claiming progress payments on cubic metres moved who needs an independent measurement the client will acceptnot Adaptive
  • A civil site checking whether a subgrade is within tolerance of the design before the surfacing crew arrivesnot Adaptive
  • A mine that wants weekly volume reporting without a survey crew on the ground every weeknot Adaptive

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Adaptive

  • Revenue-band pricing means a company with high turnover and thin margins, such as a materials-heavy trade, pays as if it were far more profitable than it is, and there is no seat-count lever to bring the cost down.
  • Back charge handling is a recurring complaint; contractors that routinely back charge subcontractors find the workflow does not model it cleanly and end up tracking it outside the system.
  • Budget structures are rigid relative to a full construction ERP, so companies that need to restructure cost codes mid-project or run multiple budget versions hit walls.
  • The QuickBooks sync has documented gaps, and because Adaptive sits alongside rather than replaces the ledger, any sync failure produces two sets of numbers that someone has to reconcile by hand.
  • It is a young company on a month-to-month contract with a Series A behind it, which cuts both ways: easy to leave, but the buyer carries the risk that a core accounting dependency changes ownership or direction.

Propeller Aero

  • Platform pricing is not published and is scoped by sites and users, so a contractor with many short-lived sites can be quoted very differently from one with a few long ones, and neither can benchmark against a list price
  • The corrections network is free only while you hold a current platform licence, so cancelling the platform subscription reintroduces a 1,000 dollar per year per group hardware cost that many buyers do not model
  • AeroPoints are a hardware purchase at 1,000 dollars each and most sites need several, so the true entry cost includes several thousand dollars of equipment on top of a subscription
  • It measures rather than designs, so a contractor still needs Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center or an equivalent to produce and revise the design surfaces the measurement is compared against
  • Accuracy depends on flight planning, ground control placement and weather, and a poorly flown survey produces a confident wrong volume, so an organisation still needs someone who understands survey error rather than only a drone pilot

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

Adaptive: How is Adaptive priced?

By annual revenue band and the scope of workflows automated, billed monthly, with unlimited users. Adaptive does not publish a rate card; third-party listings have quoted entry points in the several hundred to one thousand dollars a month range, but the figure is negotiated.

Propeller Aero: How much does Propeller cost?

The platform is quoted and not published. AeroPoints are 1,000 US dollars each, with the corrections network included for twelve months and thereafter free while a platform licence is current, otherwise 1,000 dollars a year per group.

Adaptive: Does it replace QuickBooks or Sage?

No. It sits on top of your general ledger and syncs to it. You keep the accounting system you have.

Propeller Aero: Do I need AeroPoints?

No, you can use conventional surveyed ground control, but the AeroPoints workflow is the main reason contractors choose Propeller over generic photogrammetry.

Adaptive: Is it a full construction ERP?

No. There is no payroll, equipment costing or inventory. It targets accounts payable, job costing, billing and payments.

Propeller Aero: Is it survey grade?

Propeller states centimetre-level accuracy with correct ground control. Whether that satisfies a contract depends on your specification and on how the survey was flown, not on the software alone.

Adaptive: Who is it aimed at?

Construction companies roughly between $5m and $1bn in annual revenue, both general and specialty contractors.

Propeller Aero: Who owns the data?

You retain your survey data and can export surfaces and point clouds, but check the export formats and retention terms in your contract before closeout, because bulk historical export is not a self-service one-click operation.

Adaptive: What happens to our data if we leave?

Adaptive syncs to your ledger, so the accounting record persists there. Extract documents and approval history before cancelling; month-to-month terms mean access ends quickly.
