The short version
- Each has a real cost: Nomad Sculpt polygon budgets are bounded by tablet memory, so a base-model device stalls at a fraction of the detail a desktop sculpting application handles, and the ceiling only becomes apparent once a sculpt is well underway.; nTop nTop is a specialist tool that sits alongside mainstream CAD rather than replacing it, so you pay for an extra seat and accept a handoff between two geometry systems.
- They diverge on capability: Nomad Sculpt covers Voxel remesh, nTop covers Implicit modelling.

Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Nomad Sculpt
- Polygon budgets are bounded by tablet memory, so a base-model device stalls at a fraction of the detail a desktop sculpting application handles, and the ceiling only becomes apparent once a sculpt is well underway.
- One developer maintains it, so a bug that blocks your workflow waits on one person with no support channel to escalate through.
- There is no serious retopology or UV unwrapping toolset, so anything destined for a game or animation pipeline has to leave for a desktop package regardless.
- Rendering is presentation grade rather than production grade, so client-facing images generally need an export to a desktop renderer.
- Sculpt layers and brushes are application-specific and the route out is OBJ, glTF or STL, so layered non-destructive data does not survive the transfer to another tool.
nTop
- nTop is a specialist tool that sits alongside mainstream CAD rather than replacing it, so you pay for an extra seat and accept a handoff between two geometry systems.
- Implicit modelling requires a different way of thinking from feature-based CAD, and the retraining period is long enough that unused licences are a common and expensive outcome.
- No pricing is published and there is no free or hobbyist tier, so evaluation runs through a sales process and small teams cannot try it seriously without engaging.
- Subscription only, with no perpetual licence, means the geometry logic you built stops being editable the day you stop paying, which is a real risk for long-lifecycle aerospace and medical programmes.
- The output is most valuable when you have additive manufacturing capacity to make it; organisations without machines that can print the geometry end up designing parts nobody can produce.

Questions people ask
- Is Nomad Sculpt or nTop better?
- Neither clearly leads. Nomad Sculpt starts at On request and nTop at On request, and user ratings are close enough to be indistinguishable. Choose on capability and platform support.
- Which is cheaper, Nomad Sculpt or nTop?
- Nomad Sculpt starts at On request and nTop at On request.
- Does Nomad Sculpt or nTop run on more platforms?
- Nomad Sculpt runs on iOS, Android. nTop runs on Windows, Cloud.
- What is Nomad Sculpt best used for?
- Nomad Sculpt is most often used for producing concept sculpts away from a workstation without carrying a laptop, creating 3d printing masters on a tablet and exporting stl directly, teaching sculpting fundamentals where per-seat desktop licences are not affordable, sketching character and creature forms that are finished later in a desktop package. Of those, producing concept sculpts away from a workstation without carrying a laptop and creating 3d printing masters on a tablet and exporting stl directly are not what nTop is typically brought in for.
- What can Nomad Sculpt do that nTop cannot?
- Nomad Sculpt covers Voxel remesh, Multiresolution, Dynamic topology, Layers. nTop covers Implicit modelling, Lattice and cellular structures, Field-driven design, Integrated simulation.
Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Nomad Sculpt: Is it a subscription?
No. It is a one-time app store purchase with no account and no cloud service behind it.
nTop: Is nTop the same company as nTopology?
Yes. nTopology rebranded to nTop. The product is the same lineage.
Nomad Sculpt: Which tablet should I buy for it?
Buy for memory rather than for processor. Sculpt detail is limited by RAM, so a higher-memory model raises the ceiling more than a faster chip does.
nTop: Does it replace SolidWorks or NX?
No. It is used alongside them. Mainstream CAD handles the conventional geometry and assembly; nTop handles the lattice, field-driven and complex internal structure work.
Nomad Sculpt: Can it replace ZBrush?
For sculpting itself it goes a long way. For high-density production sculpts, retopology, UVs and pipeline integration it does not.
nTop: Is there a free version?
No free commercial tier is published. Access runs through a demo and sales process, with academic programmes handled separately.
nTop: Can I buy a perpetual licence?
No. It is sold as an annual subscription, so budget it as recurring cost across the life of the programme.
