Replaces a VPN with per resource access: connectors sit inside the private network and make outbound connections only, so nothing is exposed and users reach named services rather than subnets. Overview
Twingate is a remote access service built on the zero trust model. A lightweight connector is deployed inside each private network and makes only outbound connections, so there is no inbound listener to attack and no port to forward. Users run a client that resolves protected resource names and routes just that traffic through the service, with access granted per resource to specific users and groups from your identity provider. The distinguishing property is the unit of access. A traditional VPN puts a device on a network and then relies on internal firewalls to limit it; Twingate grants a named user access to a named host and port and nothing else, and logs it at that granularity. For anyone answering an auditor about lateral movement, that difference is the entire point, and it is why it displaces VPN concentrators in organisations that have outgrown them but do not want a full network redesign. Buyers are small and mid sized technology companies with remote staff, contractors and cloud resources spread over several accounts. The trade-off is dependence and per seat cost: the control plane is proprietary and hosted, so connection setup relies on a service you cannot run yourself, and pricing is per user, which is uncomfortable when a large share of the accounts are contractors who connect a few times a month.
