Tend

Crop planning and record keeping for small diversified market farms, priced in flat tiers rather than by acre

As of 1 September 2026, Tend has a free plan and paid plans start at $30/month. Cloud farm management for market gardens, CSA growers and flower farms doing succession plantings on a few acres. Softwr lists it under Agriculture. Tend is available on Web, iOS, Android.

Overview

What Tend does

Tend is a farm management platform for small diversified operations: market gardens, CSA vegetable growers, cut-flower farms and mixed smallholdings. It handles visual crop planning across beds and successions, generates the task list that plan implies, tracks harvests and inventory, and runs the sales side through a CSA and farm-stand storefront. A crop library of tens of thousands of varieties and reusable growing templates mean the seasonal plan is built once and cloned forward. The commercial point is the pricing shape. Broadacre platforms charge by the acre, which produces either a meaningless bill or a meaningless minimum for someone farming three acres of two hundred crop varieties. Tend charges flat: free for one user, 30 US dollars a month for five users, 75 US dollars a month for unlimited users, with no acreage or crop limit at any tier and roughly a third off for annual billing. For a grower whose complexity is in the number of plantings rather than the number of hectares, that is the correct axis. Buyers are one to ten person operations that currently run on spreadsheets and a whiteboard. The trade-off is that Tend is built for that shape and only that shape. There is no machinery telematics, no variable-rate prescription, no soil sampling workflow and no compliance module for broadacre input reporting. Growers who scale past a few dozen acres of commodity crops outgrow it and have to migrate.

What people use it for

  • A three-acre market garden running weekly lettuce successions that needs the seeding calendar to generate itself from the harvest target
  • A cut-flower farm planning bed space against wedding orders months ahead
  • A CSA operation managing 150 member shares alongside the planting plan that has to fill them
  • A two-person farm replacing a spreadsheet and a whiteboard without paying a per-acre platform's minimum

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Tend.

  • The free tier keeps only three years of history and 500 MB of storage, so a grower who stays on it loses the multi-season comparison that makes crop planning software worth having in the first place.
  • Data retention is a paid feature at every level below Ultimate, which is an unusual thing to meter: a farm that downgrades from Pro to Free after a bad year risks losing records it may need for organic certification audits.
  • There is no machinery, telematics, soil sampling or variable-rate capability at all, so any operation that adds broadacre ground has to run a second platform rather than extend this one.
  • AI features are metered in credits rather than included, and the allowances are small at the lower tiers, so the assistant becomes something you ration rather than rely on.
  • The company is small and privately held with a narrow customer base, which means integrations outside payments and basic accounting are thin and a request for a connector to a regional distributor or certifier is unlikely to be built.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Does Tend charge by the acre?

No. Pricing is flat by user count, and there are no acreage or crop limits on any tier including the free one. That is the main reason small growers pick it over broadacre platforms.

Can Tend handle a CSA?

Yes, including member share management and a farm-stand storefront, though payment processing runs through a third party.

Is it suitable for a 500 acre grain farm?

No. There is no machinery data, no prescription writing and no as-applied reporting. It is built for high-crop-count, low-acreage operations.

What happens to my records if I cancel?

Export before you cancel. Retention limits apply per tier, and the free tier keeps three years, so downgrading is not a safe archive strategy.
