Cropin

Agri-intelligence platform for organisations running programmes across thousands of smallholder farms

As of 30 August 2026, Cropin's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Cropin is bought by food companies, seed businesses, banks and development agencies to see what is happening on farms they do not own. Softwr lists it under Agriculture. Cropin is made by Cropin Technology Solutions, available on Web, iOS, Android.

Overview

What Cropin does

Cropin sells a set of connected products under the Cropin Cloud banner. Cropin Grow digitises farm plots and field operations, Cropin Connect handles the farmer communication and advisory side, Cropin Trace covers supply chain traceability from plot to processing, Cropin Data Hub consolidates the resulting data, and Cropin Intelligence adds satellite-derived crop health, area estimation and yield prediction on top. Field staff and extension agents collect ground data through a mobile app, and satellite and weather layers fill in what the agents cannot cover. What separates it from Western farm management software is who signs the contract. Cropin is deployed by organisations that need visibility over farms they do not operate: food processors and buyers such as Walmart, PepsiCo, McCain and Mondelez, input companies including Syngenta and BASF, and development institutions such as the World Bank and the Gates Foundation. The commercial logic is sourcing assurance, programme reporting and risk scoring across large numbers of small plots, in geographies where no machine telemetry exists because there are no machines. That is a genuinely different problem from the one FieldView or Granular solve, and very little other software addresses it. The buyers are therefore procurement and sustainability teams at agribusinesses, lenders and insurers underwriting agricultural risk, and donor-funded programme offices. The trade-off is that a deployment is a project rather than a subscription. Somebody has to recruit, train and supervise the field agents whose data quality determines everything downstream, and satellite yield estimates lose accuracy on small fragmented plots and in monsoon regions where cloud cover interrupts the imagery for weeks. Pricing is quoted, and contracts frequently follow a programme or funding cycle rather than a software renewal cycle.

What people use it for

  • A food company that must demonstrate where a crop was grown and under what practices, across thousands of contract growers
  • A bank or insurer that needs an independent view of yield and risk before lending against a harvest
  • A development programme reporting outcomes to a donor across multiple countries and crops
  • A seed or input business tracking demonstration plots and field trial performance at scale

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Cropin.

  • Data quality depends on field agents entering records honestly and consistently, so an organisation without an existing extension network has to build one before the software returns anything useful.
  • Satellite-derived yield and health estimates degrade on small fragmented plots and during monsoon cloud cover, which is precisely where much of the customer base operates.
  • It is not a tool for running a single farm, so an individual grower or estate evaluating it will find an enterprise programme platform with no meaningful single-farm workflow.
  • Contracts are typically project shaped and tied to programme or donor funding, so the software can be switched off when a funding round ends rather than renewed on its merits.
  • There is no equipment telemetry or machinery integration of consequence, so any customer that also runs a mechanised operation needs a second platform for that side of the business.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Can an individual farm buy Cropin?

In practice no. It is sold to organisations managing many growers, and the pricing and implementation model assume programme scale.

Does it need field staff on the ground?

Yes for most deployments. Satellite layers supplement agent-collected data, they do not replace it.

Which regions is it strongest in?

India, South East Asia and Africa, where smallholder programmes are the dominant structure. Coverage in North America and Europe exists but the reference base is thinner.

Is pricing published?

No. Everything is quoted by grower count, geography and the modules taken.
