What Svix does

Svix sends outbound webhooks on behalf of API providers. You post an event to Svix and it handles fan-out to registered endpoints, exponential retries, signature generation with key rotation, IP allow-listing, rate limiting per endpoint, and delivery logging. It also provides an embeddable consumer portal so your customers can register endpoints, inspect payloads, replay failed deliveries and debug their own integrations without opening a support ticket with you. The distinguishing argument is that webhook sending looks trivial and is not. Retries need to be idempotent and jittered, one slow customer endpoint must not block deliveries to everyone else, signatures need documented verification libraries in every language your customers use, and someone has to build the debugging UI or answer the tickets instead. Svix supplies all of that plus SDKs in most languages, which is why it appears inside products from companies that would otherwise have written this themselves twice. Pricing is where buyers should look carefully. The free tier includes 50,000 messages a month with a 99.9 per cent SLA, and the Professional tier starts at 490 US dollars a month for the same 50,000 included messages, buying a 99.99 per cent SLA, higher throughput and longer retention rather than more volume. There is an open source server under MIT, but it lags the hosted product, so treating it as an escape hatch rather than a supported alternative is the realistic reading.

The Professional tier at 490 US dollars a month includes the same 50,000 messages as the free tier, so the upgrade buys SLA, throughput and retention rather than volume, which is a jarring step for a growing product.
Only attempted messages count toward usage, but a customer with many subscribed endpoints multiplies a single event into many billable messages, and forecasting that fan-out before launch is difficult.
The open source server is MIT licensed but trails the hosted product in features, so self-hosting is a fallback position rather than a genuinely equivalent option.
Routing outbound customer traffic through a third party puts a vendor in the delivery path for events your customers may treat as contractual, which some security reviews will not accept.
Payload retention is 30 days on the free tier and 90 on Professional, so anyone needing longer delivery history for audit must pay for Enterprise or log independently.
