What STATSports does
STATSports makes wearable tracking pods worn in a vest between the shoulder blades, combining satellite positioning with inertial sensors and, in team configurations, heart rate. The pods measure distance, speed bands, accelerations, decelerations and derived load metrics, and the accompanying software turns sessions into reports for coaching and medical staff. The distinguishing point is not the metric list, which is broadly comparable across the category. It is that the output is individual physiological data about named athletes, and that changes the buying process in a way clubs consistently underestimate. Heart rate and physical load data relating to an identified player is personal data, and where it touches health it attracts stricter treatment under the UK and EU data protection regimes. The club is the data controller even though the vendor hosts the platform, which means a lawful basis, a retention period, an access policy and, for academy players who are minors, parental consent. Player unions in several sports have raised exactly this, and a directory that does not mention it is doing buyers a disservice.
