Device Magic

Offline mobile forms for field crews, quote-only with a three user minimum, now under GoCanvas

As of 1 September 2026, Device Magic's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A mobile forms platform for trades and field services that works fully offline and delivers submissions as formatted PDFs. Softwr lists it under Surveys. Device Magic is made by Device Magic, part of GoCanvas, available on iOS, Android, Web.

Overview

What Device Magic does

Device Magic replaces paper field forms. A form is built in a browser designer, pushed to phones and tablets, completed offline with photographs, signatures and GPS, and delivered on sync as a formatted PDF or as structured data to email, cloud storage, a webhook or an integration. It also carries dispatch and scheduling so forms can be sent to a specific worker for a specific job, which is what distinguishes it from a pure forms builder. The practical distinguishing feature is destinations. Most mobile forms tools give you the data; Device Magic gives you a document that looks like the paper form it replaced, delivered automatically to the people who expected the paper. For a plumbing contractor whose customers, insurers and regulators expect a specific certificate layout, that is the whole value, and it is why the product survives against cheaper generic form builders. Both plans, Max and Enterprise, are per user per month billed annually with a three user minimum, and neither price is published; the plans list unlimited forms, unlimited submissions and unlimited lifetime data storage, so the variable is seats rather than volume. Device Magic now sits within GoCanvas, which sells a directly competing mobile forms product. That is an ownership fact worth raising in a renewal conversation, because two overlapping products in one portfolio rarely both receive investment indefinitely. Buyers are construction, field service, utilities and inspection businesses with crews who work where there is no signal.

What people use it for

  • A mechanical contractor whose service certificates must reach the customer as a specific PDF layout immediately after the visit
  • An inspection crew working in basements and rural sites where there is no signal for most of the working day
  • A utility that needs the day's jobs dispatched to named engineers with the right form attached to each one
  • A business replacing carbon-copy job sheets where the office currently re-keys every sheet into an accounting system

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Device Magic.

  • Neither plan publishes a price and both carry a three user minimum billed annually, so a two-person business cannot buy it at all and a small firm cannot benchmark the quote against published competitors
  • Device Magic is now part of GoCanvas, which sells an overlapping mobile forms product, so buyers should ask directly about long-term investment in Device Magic before signing a multi-year term
  • Per user per month pricing means seasonal and occasional field staff consume full seats, and businesses with a large casual crew pay for licences that are used a few weeks a year
  • It captures and delivers data but does not manage the work itself, so there is no job costing, no scheduling depth and no invoicing, and it usually sits alongside a field service management system rather than replacing one
  • PDF layout control is the main reason to buy it and is also the most fiddly part of the product; complex certificate layouts take real configuration effort and are not something a field supervisor will maintain

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.
