The short version

  • Each has a real cost: PTC Windchill no pricing is published at any tier, and per-user rates are heavily negotiable on multi-year commitments, so the first quote a buyer receives is rarely the achievable price and small buyers without volume have little leverage.; SKF Enlight Centre no pricing is published for the software, the sensors, the gateways or the remote diagnostic services, so the total cost of a deployment only emerges after a site survey and a quotation.
  • They diverge on capability: PTC Windchill covers Part and BOM management, SKF Enlight Centre covers Asset-based interface.
  • Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

PTC Windchill

  • No pricing is published at any tier, and per-user rates are heavily negotiable on multi-year commitments, so the first quote a buyer receives is rarely the achievable price and small buyers without volume have little leverage.
  • Implementation dominates cost: data migration, configuration and training routinely account for the majority of three-year total cost of ownership, and large programmes run into seven figures of services.
  • Annual support and maintenance is charged as a percentage of licence value in the low-to-mid teens, so the bill continues indefinitely even in years when nothing is upgraded.
  • Upgrades between major releases are projects rather than updates, particularly where the deployment has been customised, and heavily customised sites often sit several versions behind.
  • The role-based licence tiers mean occasional participants such as purchasing or quality still consume paid seats unless you deploy Windchill Navigate, which is a further product to buy and configure.

SKF Enlight Centre

  • No pricing is published for the software, the sensors, the gateways or the remote diagnostic services, so the total cost of a deployment only emerges after a site survey and a quotation.
  • The platform is built for SKF sensing hardware, so third-party sensors are poorly served and you are effectively committing to SKF for the life of the installation.
  • Remote diagnostic services are a separate ongoing contract, and without them the platform gives you data rather than verdicts, which most buyers of Enlight Centre do not have the staff to interpret.
  • SKF has run overlapping condition monitoring products including @ptitude Observer and Enlight AI, and the boundaries between them have shifted over time, which makes long-term product roadmap commitments hard to read.
  • Battery-powered wireless sensors on shipboard or high-vibration installations need periodic replacement, and that maintenance burden falls on crews who were the reason you automated collection in the first place.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

PTC Windchill: Is a perpetual licence still available?

PTC has moved decisively to subscription and now positions Windchill as a subscription product. Existing perpetual estates are supported but new perpetual sales are not the default route and should not be assumed.

SKF Enlight Centre: Is Enlight Centre a single product or a family?

SKF Enlight is a family. Enlight Centre is the web software; Enlight Collect IMx-1 is the wireless sensing hardware and Enlight AI is a separate analytics product.

PTC Windchill: How much does Windchill cost?

PTC publishes nothing. Expect role-tiered per-user subscription plus modules, plus support at a percentage of licence value, plus implementation services that usually exceed the software.

SKF Enlight Centre: Can I use non-SKF sensors?

Not meaningfully. The platform is designed around SKF sensing hardware and SKF service delivery.

PTC Windchill: Does it require Creo?

No. Creo integration is deepest, but connectors exist for SolidWorks, NX, CATIA and Inventor. Mixed-CAD sites are common.

SKF Enlight Centre: Does SKF analyse the data for me?

Only under a remote diagnostic services contract with an SKF Rotating Equipment Performance Centre, priced separately.

PTC Windchill: Is it overkill for a hundred-person hardware company?

Usually yes, unless you are in a regulated sector. Below that scale a cloud-native PLM will reach useful state in weeks rather than quarters.

SKF Enlight Centre: Is it suitable for ships?

Yes, marine is one of its primary segments and it is designed for intermittent satellite connectivity.
