Podman: From the same project, and the runtime that actually executes the images Skopeo moves

Inspect, copy and sign container images without pulling them
As of 29 August 2026, Skopeo is free to use. Moves and inspects container images between registries without a daemon or a local pull. Softwr lists it under Cloud. Skopeo is made by Red Hat, available on Linux, macOS.
Overview
Skopeo performs operations on container images and registries without requiring a daemon and without pulling images to local storage. It can inspect a remote image’s metadata and layers, copy images between registries, delete them, and sign them. The practical value is bandwidth and pipeline simplicity. Checking what is inside an image, or promoting a build from a staging registry to production, normally means pulling it down and pushing it back up. Skopeo copies registry to registry directly, and inspects without downloading at all.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Skopeo.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Yes, open source with no licence fee.
A registry-to-registry copy avoids downloading and re-uploading gigabytes, which is faster and much cheaper on bandwidth in CI.
No. It only inspects, copies, signs and deletes images. Running them is Podman’s or Docker’s job.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Skopeo, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
