Overview
Rancher is an open-source Kubernetes management platform for operating multiple clusters across clouds, data centres and edge sites from a single control plane. It handles provisioning, centralised authentication and RBAC, monitoring and application catalogues. The problem it addresses appears once an organisation has more than a few clusters: each has its own access control, its own monitoring and its own upgrade cycle, and consistency stops being achievable by hand. Rancher imports existing clusters regardless of who provisioned them, including EKS, GKE and AKS.
