SISTRIX

German SEO toolbox built around a domain Visibility Index measured weekly since 2008

As of 31 August 2026, SISTRIX's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. SISTRIX is the tool that made the Visibility Index a standard measure in German-speaking SEO, quoted in agency reports and trade press as the reference for whether a domain gained or lost search presence. Softwr lists it under SEO. SISTRIX is made by SISTRIX GmbH, available on Web, API.

Overview

What SISTRIX does

SISTRIX is a Bonn company founded in 2008 by Johannes Beus. The Toolbox is sold as modules covering SEO, links, paid search, social and an on-page optimiser, and the SEO module is built around the Visibility Index: a weekly measurement of how visible a domain is across a large fixed keyword set for each supported country, published continuously since 2008. The fixed keyword set is the commercial point. Rank trackers priced by tracked keywords measure the keywords you chose to track, which means your history resets whenever your strategy changes and your numbers cannot be compared to a competitor who tracks a different list. Because SISTRIX measures the same set for everyone, a Visibility Index chart compares your domain, your competitors and any acquisition target over fifteen years on one axis. That is why it is quoted externally, and it is a different purchase from a keyword research subscription. Buyers are German, Austrian and Swiss agencies and in-house teams, plus Italian, Spanish, French and British users where coverage is also deep. The trade-off is geography and granularity. Coverage outside western Europe is thinner than Ahrefs or Semrush, the Visibility Index is a domain-level measure so a large movement can originate on pages nobody cares about, and the link index is smaller than the market leaders.

What people use it for

  • Reporting search visibility to a board in Germany where the Visibility Index is the expected metric
  • Comparing a domain against competitors over years, including before you started tracking anything
  • Due diligence on an acquisition target where you need visibility history you did not collect yourself
  • Diagnosing whether a traffic drop coincided with a core update by comparing against the whole measured market

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about SISTRIX.

  • Coverage is deepest in German-speaking Europe and thinner in the United States and Asia, so international teams still need Ahrefs or Semrush alongside it.
  • The Visibility Index is domain-level, so a dramatic chart movement can come entirely from pages that carry no commercial value and requires drilling down before it means anything.
  • The link index is smaller than the market leaders, which matters if backlink discovery rather than visibility measurement is your main use.
  • Modules are priced individually, so a team that needs SEO, links and the Optimizer pays a multiple of the entry price for one module.
  • Documentation, community material and support are German-first, and while English is available the depth of the two is not equal.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

What is the Visibility Index actually measuring?

Rankings for a large fixed keyword set per country, weighted by expected traffic, measured weekly. It is not your keyword list, which is what makes it comparable.

Can it replace Ahrefs or Semrush?

For German-language visibility reporting and competitor history, yes. For global keyword research and backlink analysis it is a complement rather than a replacement.

How far back does the data go?

To 2008 for the earliest supported countries, which is longer than any rank tracker can offer on your own keyword list.
