Hybrid physics and machine learning prognostics that estimate remaining useful life for process equipment
As of 1 September 2026, Novity's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A PARC spin-out that predicts time to failure rather than flagging anomalies, which is the difference between an alert you have to interpret and a number you can schedule a shutdown around. Softwr lists it under Energy. Novity is made by Novity, Inc., available on Web, Cloud.
Overview
Novity was spun out of Xerox PARC and sells TruPrognostics, a prognostics engine for process industry equipment. Rather than training purely on historical failure data, which most plants do not have in useful quantity, it combines physics-based degradation models with machine learning and plant context to diagnose a specific fault mode and forecast remaining useful life. The output is a failure mode, a confidence and a time horizon, which is what a planner needs to move a shutdown rather than raise a work order. The fact that matters for a shortlist is the hybrid modelling approach and its consequence: because the physics carries part of the load, Novity can produce useful prognostics on equipment with little or no run-to-failure history, which is the exact condition that stalls conventional machine-learning predictive maintenance projects. The company reports diagnostic true positive rates above 90 percent and deployments in upstream and midstream oil and gas, LNG terminals and wastewater, and in May 2026 took a strategic investment from Acario Innovation, the corporate venture arm of Tokyo Gas, which points the roadmap towards gas turbines and power generation for data centres. Who buys it: process operators with rotating and reciprocating equipment where an unplanned trip is expensive and where existing vibration monitoring produces alarms nobody trusts. The trade-off is vendor size. Novity is a small venture-backed company, pricing is unpublished, every deployment involves model configuration per equipment class, and you are betting on a company whose exit is more likely than its independence.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Novity.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Augury: Pick Augury if you would rather buy sensors and analysts as one per-machine service than configure models.

AVEVA PI System: Pick PI System if you first need the data collected and historised before prognostics is a realistic goal.

Cognite Data Fusion: Pick Cognite if the wider problem is contextualising plant data rather than predicting one class of failure.

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.
A named failure mode and an estimated remaining useful life with a confidence band, not just an anomaly alert.
No. The physics component is what lets it produce useful prognostics on equipment with little or no run-to-failure data.
Often not. It reads from your existing historian, but low sampling rates or missing measurements can require additional instrumentation.
It was spun out of Xerox PARC and took a strategic investment from Acario Innovation, the venture arm of Tokyo Gas, in 2026.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Novity, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish.
