Kittl

Browser design tool for typography, lettering and merchandise graphics with a licensed asset library

As of 31 August 2026, Kittl is free to use. A design tool where the product is really the licence, not the canvas. Softwr lists it under Content Creation. Kittl is made by Kittl GmbH, available on Web.

Overview

What Kittl does

Kittl is a browser-based design application built around typography, vintage lettering, logos and print graphics. It ships a large library of fonts, textures, illustrations and templates, plus text effects, warping and AI image generation, and outputs artwork intended for merchandise, packaging and print. What separates it from a general vector editor is that the assets arrive with commercial use rights tied to the subscription. For someone selling t-shirts or posters, the cost of a design is normally the cost of clearing every font and texture in it; Kittl folds that into one monthly figure. That is a real commercial difference and it is also the main thing to read carefully, because the licence attaches to an active plan rather than to the file you exported. The buyers are print-on-demand sellers, small brand owners and freelance designers producing high volumes of decorative work. The trade-off is precision. Colour management, spot colours, bleed setup and true vector output for every effect are weaker than in Illustrator or Affinity Designer, so anything going to a commercial printer with strict artwork requirements can fail at prepress.

What people use it for

  • Producing a run of t-shirt designs where every font and texture must be cleared for resale
  • Building a small brand identity quickly without an Illustrator licence or a designer
  • Turning a rough sketch into vector artwork for a poster or packaging label in one session
  • Generating listing mockups for a print-on-demand shop in the same tool that made the artwork

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Kittl.

  • The asset licence is tied to an active subscription rather than to the exported file, so anyone building a shop on Kittl artwork needs to read the terms before cancelling and assume nothing about designs already sold.
  • Several effects rasterise on export, so a design that looks correct on screen can fail a printer requirement for genuine vector artwork or CMYK separations.
  • There is no offline mode at all; the editor is browser-only, which matters for anyone working from a market stall, a print shop floor or an unreliable connection.
  • Kittl does not disclose the training data behind its AI image generation, so buyers who need provenance assurances for client or licensed work cannot obtain them.
  • The typography effects are tuned for the bundled faces, so uploading your own licensed fonts is possible on paid plans but loses much of what makes the tool fast.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Can I sell what I make with the bundled assets?

Yes on paid plans, which grant commercial use of the library assets. The right is tied to the subscription, so read the licence terms before you cancel.

Is it a replacement for Illustrator?

No. It has no serious path editing, colour management or prepress tooling. It is a fast route to decorative print artwork, not a general vector editor.

Who owns the AI-generated images?

Kittl grants commercial use of generated output on paid plans. It does not publish what the underlying models were trained on.
