What Bearing AI does

Bearing AI applies machine learning to vessel performance. Instead of relying on the speed and consumption tables supplied at delivery, it learns each vessel’s actual behaviour from historical voyage, weather and AIS data, then uses that model for speed and route optimisation, bunker planning, emissions forecasting and commercial voyage evaluation. The distinction matters commercially because chartering decisions, freight calculations and CII projections are all made against a consumption assumption, and a shipyard curve for a ten-year-old hull is systematically optimistic. The routes to market have shifted. In June 2025 StormGeo formed a partnership embedding Bearing AI vessel performance modelling into its voyage optimisation service, and Bearing has pursued similar arrangements rather than building a full voyage management platform of its own.
