Algopix

Market research tool that estimates demand, competition and margin for products across marketplaces

As of 30 August 2026, Algopix is free to use. A subscription research tool for marketplace sellers deciding what to list. Softwr lists it under E-Commerce. Algopix is launched in 2014, available on Web.

Overview

What Algopix does

Algopix is a product research and analytics tool for people selling on marketplaces rather than on their own storefront. You give it a product identifier or a list of them, and it returns an estimate of demand, of how many competing sellers there are, of the prices those competitors hold and of what would be left after marketplace fees and shipping. Its purpose is the sourcing decision, the moment before you commit money to stock, and it is not a platform, a listing tool or an order management system. What makes a tool in this category worth paying for is coverage across marketplaces and regions, because the interesting answer is usually not whether a product sells but where it sells for more. The commercial case rests entirely on that comparison being accurate for the specific marketplaces and countries you sell into, so the question to answer before subscribing is not what the tool does in general but which of your marketplaces it currently covers and how recently that data was refreshed. Coverage in this category moves, because it depends on marketplace API access that the marketplaces themselves control and periodically restrict. It is bought by resellers, arbitrage sellers and wholesalers evaluating large product lists quickly, and the trade-off is the nature of the output. These are modelled estimates derived from sampled marketplace data, not figures the marketplace reports about itself, so they are useful for ranking a list of candidates and unreliable as a forecast for any single one. It is also a pure subscription with no durable output. You are renting a screening process, and the moment you stop paying you keep only the decisions you already made with it.

What people use it for

  • Screening a supplier's wholesale list of several hundred items down to the handful worth stocking
  • Deciding which country marketplace to list an existing product on when it has stalled in one
  • Sanity checking margin on a product before committing to a minimum order quantity
  • Comparing what a product sells for on different marketplaces before setting a price

The honest half

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Algopix.

  • The demand and competition figures are modelled estimates built from sampled marketplace data rather than numbers the marketplace reports, so they rank candidates usefully but should never be treated as a forecast for one product you are about to buy in quantity.
  • Profitability calculations depend on a stored marketplace fee schedule, and marketplaces revise referral and fulfilment fees regularly, so a margin figure computed against a stale schedule can be optimistic in exactly the categories where margin is thinnest.
  • Marketplace coverage depends on API access that the marketplaces control, so the set of sites and regions a tool like this supports can narrow without notice and the comparison you subscribed for may not be the one you get in a year.
  • It says nothing about supply, so a product that screens as profitable can still be unsourceable, subject to a minimum order you cannot meet, or restricted on the marketplace to approved sellers only, and none of that appears in the analysis.
  • It is a subscription that produces no asset, so unlike a listing tool or a storefront there is nothing left when you cancel, and the ongoing cost has to be justified against the incremental margin of decisions you would otherwise have made by hand.

Answered, with sources

Questions people ask

Each answer names the page it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

Is this a selling platform?

No. It informs the decision about what to sell. Listing, order management and fulfilment all happen elsewhere.

How accurate are the demand numbers?

They are estimates inferred from marketplace signals, not marketplace-reported sales. Use them to rank a list, not to forecast a single product's volume.

What should I check before subscribing?

Which marketplaces and which country sites are covered right now, and whether they are the ones you actually sell on. Coverage is the variable that decides whether the tool is useful to you.

Does it account for marketplace fees?

It nets estimated fees and shipping off the sale price, but the fee schedule it uses is only as current as its last update, so verify the fee assumptions for your category before trusting a thin margin.
