The short version
- Each has a real cost: ProShop ERP it runs on a Microsoft stack with Internet Information Services and SQL Server, so a shop choosing on premises deployment needs a Windows server and someone to maintain it, which is not what buyers expect when they hear browser based.; Samotics sAM4 only sees what reaches the motor electrically, so it covers the driven train and misses un-driven equipment, structures, process conditions and anything downstream of a mechanical decoupling.
- They diverge on capability: ProShop ERP covers Integrated quality management, Samotics covers Electrical signature analysis.

What people use each for
The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.
ProShop ERP
- A machine shop pursuing or holding AS9100 registration that currently maintains quality records separately from its ERPnot Samotics
- A high mix low volume shop where every job has different routings and paper travellers keep going missingnot Samotics
- A contract manufacturer needing material certification and lot traceability from receipt through to shipped partnot Samotics
- A shop with 1990s machines that wants shop floor data capture through operator kiosks because the controllers cannot be readnot Samotics
Samotics
- A water utility monitoring submersible and borehole pumps that no vibration sensor can be fitted to without lifting the pumpnot ProShop ERP
- A chemical plant with assets in ATEX zones where certifying and maintaining in-field sensors is more expensive than the monitoring itselfnot ProShop ERP
- A food plant that wants pump and mixer condition data without opening guarding or taking a hygiene-critical line down to fit sensorsnot ProShop ERP
- A site building an energy reduction case, where measured motor efficiency and waste give the business case a payback that reliability alone would notnot ProShop ERP
Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
ProShop ERP
- It runs on a Microsoft stack with Internet Information Services and SQL Server, so a shop choosing on premises deployment needs a Windows server and someone to maintain it, which is not what buyers expect when they hear browser based.
- The software is opinionated and expects the shop to adopt its processes, so a shop determined to keep its existing habits gets a poor result and blames the tool.
- Everything depends on operators entering time and status at each operation, and a shop that cannot enforce that discipline ends up with costing and scheduling data that nobody trusts.
- It is not a machine monitoring product and does not read controllers, so spindle utilisation and automatic cycle counting require a separate product such as a monitoring platform.
- The partner ecosystem is very small, so implementation, training and any customisation come from the vendor, and there is no market of independent consultants to fall back on or to price against.
Samotics
- SAM4 only sees what reaches the motor electrically, so it covers the driven train and misses un-driven equipment, structures, process conditions and anything downstream of a mechanical decoupling.
- Each monitored motor needs hardware installed in the motor control centre by a qualified electrician, and in older switchrooms that installation, including any required outage, can cost more than a year of the subscription.
- Per-asset subscription pricing means the cost scales linearly with the number of motors, so a plant with a thousand small motors faces a bill that a fixed-price plant-wide vibration system would not impose.
- Electrical signature analysis on variable-speed drives is harder than on direct-on-line motors, and results vary with drive type, so a heavily VSD estate should insist on a pilot on its own drives before committing.
- Nothing is published on price, contract length or minimum deployment size, and the vendor sells multi-year subscriptions, so early exit terms are a negotiation you have to raise yourself.

Questions people ask
- Is ProShop ERP or Samotics better?
- Neither clearly leads. ProShop ERP starts at On request and Samotics at On request, and user ratings are close enough to be indistinguishable. Choose on capability and platform support.
- Which is cheaper, ProShop ERP or Samotics?
- ProShop ERP starts at On request and Samotics at On request.
- Does ProShop ERP or Samotics run on more platforms?
- ProShop ERP runs on Web, Windows. Samotics runs on Web, Cloud.
- What is ProShop ERP best used for?
- ProShop ERP is most often used for a machine shop pursuing or holding as9100 registration that currently maintains quality records separately from its erp, a high mix low volume shop where every job has different routings and paper travellers keep going missing, a contract manufacturer needing material certification and lot traceability from receipt through to shipped part, a shop with 1990s machines that wants shop floor data capture through operator kiosks because the controllers cannot be read. Of those, a machine shop pursuing or holding as9100 registration that currently maintains quality records separately from its erp and a high mix low volume shop where every job has different routings and paper travellers keep going missing are not what Samotics is typically brought in for.
- What can ProShop ERP do that Samotics cannot?
- ProShop ERP covers Integrated quality management, Digital travellers, Job costing, Capacity scheduling. Samotics covers Electrical signature analysis, Switchroom installation, Energy and efficiency measurement, Submersible and hazardous area coverage.
Answered from the vendors’ own pages
ProShop ERP: Is it cloud software?
It is browser based and can be vendor hosted, but many customers run it on their own Windows server, which carries the usual infrastructure obligations.
Samotics: Does Samotics replace vibration monitoring?
For motor-driven assets it often does, and it reaches assets vibration cannot. For un-driven equipment and structures it does not apply at all.
ProShop ERP: Does it replace my accounting system?
No. It handles costing and purchasing and integrates with QuickBooks or similar for the general ledger.
Samotics: Do I have to buy Samotics hardware?
Yes. SAM4 requires the vendor's sensors fitted in the motor control centre; there is no software-only option.
ProShop ERP: Will it work with old CNC machines?
Yes, because it takes operator input at kiosks rather than reading machine controllers. That is a strength for shops with older equipment.
Samotics: Does it work on variable-speed drives?
It can, but performance depends on the drive and the operating profile. Pilot it on your own VSD assets rather than accepting a reference from a direct-on-line site.
ProShop ERP: Is it suitable for process or batch manufacturing?
No. It is built for discrete machining and fabrication with routings and travellers.
Samotics: How is it priced?
Subscription per monitored asset, quoted, typically on a multi-year term, with hardware and electrical installation on top.
