The short version
- Each has a real cost: Nomad Sculpt polygon budgets are bounded by tablet memory, so a base-model device stalls at a fraction of the detail a desktop sculpting application handles, and the ceiling only becomes apparent once a sculpt is well underway.; Solid Edge candidate list contains only one genuine competitor (Siemens NX from same vendor); very limited competing options in the provided list
- They diverge on capability: Nomad Sculpt covers Voxel remesh, Solid Edge covers Synchronous technology.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 31 August 2026.

Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Nomad Sculpt
- Polygon budgets are bounded by tablet memory, so a base-model device stalls at a fraction of the detail a desktop sculpting application handles, and the ceiling only becomes apparent once a sculpt is well underway.
- One developer maintains it, so a bug that blocks your workflow waits on one person with no support channel to escalate through.
- There is no serious retopology or UV unwrapping toolset, so anything destined for a game or animation pipeline has to leave for a desktop package regardless.
- Rendering is presentation grade rather than production grade, so client-facing images generally need an export to a desktop renderer.
- Sculpt layers and brushes are application-specific and the route out is OBJ, glTF or STL, so layered non-destructive data does not survive the transfer to another tool.
Solid Edge
- Candidate list contains only one genuine competitor (Siemens NX from same vendor); very limited competing options in the provided list
- Cloud-only platform with no traditional desktop licensing option; requires constant internet connectivity
- Limited third-party plugin ecosystem compared to standalone CAD tools
- Advanced simulation and generative design features require separate subscriptions, increasing total cost
- Smaller user community compared to AutoCAD or other mainstream CAD platforms

Questions people ask
- Is Nomad Sculpt or Solid Edge better?
- Neither clearly leads. Nomad Sculpt starts at On request and Solid Edge at $1/month, and user ratings are close enough to be indistinguishable. Choose on capability and platform support.
- Which is cheaper, Nomad Sculpt or Solid Edge?
- Nomad Sculpt starts at On request and Solid Edge at $1/month.
- Does Nomad Sculpt or Solid Edge run on more platforms?
- Nomad Sculpt runs on iOS, Android. Solid Edge runs on Windows.
- What is Nomad Sculpt best used for?
- Nomad Sculpt is most often used for producing concept sculpts away from a workstation without carrying a laptop, creating 3d printing masters on a tablet and exporting stl directly, teaching sculpting fundamentals where per-seat desktop licences are not affordable, sketching character and creature forms that are finished later in a desktop package. Of those, producing concept sculpts away from a workstation without carrying a laptop and creating 3d printing masters on a tablet and exporting stl directly are not what Solid Edge is typically brought in for.
- What can Nomad Sculpt do that Solid Edge cannot?
- Nomad Sculpt covers Voxel remesh, Multiresolution, Dynamic topology, Layers. Solid Edge covers Synchronous technology, Parametric modeling, Sheet metal, Simulation.
Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Nomad Sculpt: Is it a subscription?
No. It is a one-time app store purchase with no account and no cloud service behind it.
Solid Edge: What is Solid Edge's pricing model?
Solid Edge uses a flexible, usage-based subscription model. New customers can get their first month for $1 and cancel anytime, with pay-as-you-go pricing for additional capabilities without complex upgrades or procurement delays.
SourceNomad Sculpt: Which tablet should I buy for it?
Buy for memory rather than for processor. Sculpt detail is limited by RAM, so a higher-memory model raises the ceiling more than a faster chip does.
Solid Edge: What platforms does Solid Edge run on?
Solid Edge is a cloud-based 3D CAD software accessed through the Designcenter platform. It supports web browsers and can be accessed from any device with cloud synchronization.
SourceNomad Sculpt: Can it replace ZBrush?
For sculpting itself it goes a long way. For high-density production sculpts, retopology, UVs and pipeline integration it does not.
Solid Edge: What are Solid Edge's core CAD features?
Solid Edge includes part and assembly design, automated drawings, basic animation, rendering, comprehensive sheet metal design, model-based definition (MBD), and simulation tools. Advanced features like generative design and AI-powered drawing creation are available as add-ons.
SourceSolid Edge: Does Solid Edge support augmented reality?
Yes, Solid Edge allows designers to review designs in augmented reality (AR) on phones and tablets. Users can view, measure, and markup CAD files on any device.
SourceSolid Edge: How does Solid Edge integrate with other Siemens products?
Designcenter Solid Edge has out-of-the-box integrations with Teamcenter and Teamcenter X for lifecycle management. CAM XaaS products work with Solid Edge, and it provides secure data management and seamless integration with third-party applications.
SourceSolid Edge: What are the key differences between Solid Edge and Siemens NX?
Solid Edge is Siemens' mid-range 3D CAD solution positioned for smaller teams and general mechanical design. Siemens NX is the advanced PLM system for complex manufacturing and enterprise design workflows.
