The short version

  • Only Lokalise has a free tier, so it costs nothing to try first.
  • Each has a real cost: Lokalise there is no free tier; the entry Explorer plan starts at $144 per month; XTM Cloud no pricing is published for any product in the range, and unlike most quoted vendors XTM does not even disclose the unit of measure, so a buyer cannot tell whether to forecast seats, words or projects before the first sales call.
  • Prices and features above were last checked on 31 August 2026.

What each one covers

Drawn from each product's published feature list. An absence here means we hold no record of it - not that the product lacks it.

Only in Lokalise

Nothing recorded that XTM Cloud does not also cover.

  • Automating multi-product translation workflowsnot XTM Cloud
  • Integrating GitHub and GitLab for code localizationnot XTM Cloud
  • Translating Figma designs for global audiencesnot XTM Cloud
  • Maintaining consistency with translation memorynot XTM Cloud

XTM Cloud

  • A large enterprise localisation programme that needs deep workflow configuration and wide file format coverage more than it needs a quick startnot Lokalise
  • A language service provider that wants the translation platform and the business management system from one suppliernot Lokalise
  • Software localisation where translators need to see strings inside the running interface rather than in a resource filenot Lokalise
  • Organisations already inside the XTM portfolio through Transifex, Rigi or XTRF that want to consolidate onto one vendornot Lokalise

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Lokalise

  • There is no free tier; the entry Explorer plan starts at $144 per month
  • Multi-product workflow support requires the $999 per month Advanced plan
  • Enterprise security and support features are gated behind a custom quote

XTM Cloud

  • No pricing is published for any product in the range, and unlike most quoted vendors XTM does not even disclose the unit of measure, so a buyer cannot tell whether to forecast seats, words or projects before the first sales call.
  • XTM and Transifex are now the same company, so a shortlist containing both is not the competitive comparison it appears to be and the pricing pressure a buyer expects from playing them against each other does not exist.
  • The acquisition run of Rigi, Locale, Transifex and TXTOmedia between 2023 and 2025 has created overlapping capability, and which product line receives sustained investment is a question the vendor has not answered publicly.
  • Private-equity ownership since 2021 tends to show up at renewal rather than at signature, so the first-year price is a poor guide to the three-year cost and multi-year terms are worth negotiating up front.
  • Leadership has turned over repeatedly, with the chief executive appointed in January 2023 resigning in October 2025 and three directors leaving in March 2023, which is a poor signal for roadmap continuity on a multi-year platform commitment.
