The short version

  • Each has a real cost: Kuebix the free tier that made the product well known was the reason most buyers looked at it, and after the Trimble acquisition the entry level commercial terms are no longer what the widely circulated reviews describe, so any research older than the acquisition is misleading.; Transfix the 2022 termination of the planned public listing left the company private and smaller than it was built to be, so a buyer signing a multi year contract should confirm data export rights and continuity terms rather than assume permanence.
  • They diverge on capability: Kuebix covers Rate shopping, Transfix covers Routing guide management.
  • Prices and features above were last checked on 31 August 2026.

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Kuebix

  • The free tier that made the product well known was the reason most buyers looked at it, and after the Trimble acquisition the entry level commercial terms are no longer what the widely circulated reviews describe, so any research older than the acquisition is misleading.
  • Ownership by Trimble means the roadmap is set against a portfolio strategy centred on carrier and fleet technology, and shipper side investment competes internally with products that sell to a different customer.
  • It is a rating and booking tool rather than a full transportation management system, so shippers with multi leg, international or complex allocation requirements outgrow it quickly.
  • Rate accuracy depends on the shipper loading and maintaining its own carrier contracts, and stale rate tables produce confident quotes that the carrier invoice then contradicts.
  • Support and account management now run through a large diversified vendor, and small shippers on entry level arrangements report less direct access than they had with the original company.

Transfix

  • The 2022 termination of the planned public listing left the company private and smaller than it was built to be, so a buyer signing a multi year contract should confirm data export rights and continuity terms rather than assume permanence.
  • Coverage is North American truckload, so a shipper with intermodal, LTL, parcel or international freight needs a second system and loses the single view that motivated the purchase.
  • Accounting, settlement and driver pay are shallow compared with an established brokerage system, and most customers still run finance in a separate package.
  • Predictive pricing is derived largely from the Transfix book of business, so accuracy falls away on lanes and equipment types the brokerage rarely touches.
  • The software and brokerage sit in one company, so a shipper using the platform to manage its own carriers is asking a competitor for its freight to hold the performance data on those carriers.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

Kuebix: Is Kuebix still free?

Do not assume so. The free community tier was central to the original company and the terms changed after Trimble acquired the business in 2020. Confirm current availability with Trimble.

Transfix: Did Transfix go public?

No. The merger agreement with a special purpose acquisition company was announced in 2021 and terminated in 2022, and the company remained private.

Kuebix: Who owns Kuebix?

Trimble Inc., which acquired it in 2020.

Transfix: Can I use the software without giving Transfix freight?

It is sold that way, but the commercial model still assumes some brokerage participation, and pricing reflects that.

Kuebix: Is it a full TMS?

It is strongest at LTL rate shopping, booking and tracking. Complex multimodal planning is not its territory.

Transfix: Does it handle LTL and intermodal?

Its depth is in full truckload. Treat other modes as a gap to be covered elsewhere.

Kuebix: Does it work with my own carrier contracts?

Yes, that is the core use case, but you are responsible for keeping the rate tables current.

Transfix: Is pricing published?

No. Every arrangement is quoted, and software fees are often blended with brokerage volume.
