The short version
- Each has a real cost: Case IH AFS Connect coverage of non-Case IH machinery is thin, so a mixed-colour fleet ends up running two portals and reconciling the data by hand or through a third-party platform.; fieldmargin per-farm pricing inverts badly at the small end: a 30 hectare holding pays the same as a 3,000 hectare estate, so the effective cost per hectare on a smallholding is many times what a large farm pays.
- They diverge on capability: Case IH AFS Connect covers Machine telemetry, fieldmargin covers Field mapping.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Case IH AFS Connect
- Coverage of non-Case IH machinery is thin, so a mixed-colour fleet ends up running two portals and reconciling the data by hand or through a third-party platform.
- The agronomic side is weaker than software-first platforms: field records, input tracking and compliance reporting are shallower than Agworld or Conservis and most serious growers export to something else.
- The entry cost is hardware, not software; a Pro 1200 display and receiver retrofit runs into five figures per machine, which is the real barrier for anyone hoping to add the platform to an older tractor.
- Connectivity Included only applies to qualifying machines from October 2024 onward, so a farm with a five-year-old fleet still faces a per-machine dealer activation fee and older modems may not be eligible at all.
- Dealer dependency is total: activations, subscription changes and most troubleshooting route through the dealer rather than a self-service portal, which makes response times a function of your local dealership rather than CNH.
fieldmargin
- Per-farm pricing inverts badly at the small end: a 30 hectare holding pays the same as a 3,000 hectare estate, so the effective cost per hectare on a smallholding is many times what a large farm pays.
- It is not an agronomy platform, so there is no variable rate prescription engine and no nutrient planning to a standard a UK agronomist will certify, meaning most arable users still pay for Gatekeeper or an agronomist's own system alongside it.
- There is no direct submission route into Basic Payment Scheme, Sustainable Farming Incentive or equivalent schemes, so the compliance paperwork that costs farms real money still has to be assembled elsewhere.
- Machine integration is limited compared with Climate FieldView or Operations Center; as-applied data from the sprayer or drill generally is not flowing in automatically, so application records depend on someone typing them.
- Satellite NDVI is confined to the top tier and is standard public imagery, so cloud cover in a British winter means long gaps and the imagery is not a substitute for the aircraft or drone capture that specialist providers sell.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Case IH AFS Connect: Is AFS Connect the same thing as FieldOps?
FieldOps is the rebuilt CNH portal and app that AFS Connect accounts have been migrating into. The underlying machine connectivity is the same; the branding and interface changed.
fieldmargin: Does it charge per hectare?
No. Subscriptions are per farm with unlimited hectares and unlimited team members, which is why it is cheap on large acreages and proportionally expensive on small ones.
Case IH AFS Connect: Do I still pay an annual subscription?
Not on qualifying machines built and purchased from 1 October 2024, where connectivity is included. Older machines with a compatible modem can be activated through a dealer for a one-time fee.
fieldmargin: Can I submit my BPS or SFI claim from it?
No. It holds the records that support a claim but there is no direct submission integration, so the claim itself is prepared elsewhere.
Case IH AFS Connect: Can I use it with John Deere or New Holland machines in the same fleet?
Not natively in any useful way. New Holland shares CNH infrastructure but sits in its own portal, and Deere data has to come in through API sharing or a third-party farm management platform.
fieldmargin: Does it work without mobile signal?
Yes. The mobile apps capture records offline and sync when the phone regains a connection, which is the main reason it gets used in the far corners of a farm.
Case IH AFS Connect: What does it cost to add to a used tractor?
The subscription may be cheap or free, but the display, receiver and modem retrofit are the cost, and those are quoted per machine by the dealer into five figures.
fieldmargin: Is there a free plan?
There is a 14 day trial rather than a permanently free tier. After that every farm is on a paid plan.
