What people use each for

The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.

Beckman Coulter DxONE

  • A hospital laboratory standardising on Beckman DxC and DxI analysers that wants autoverification to release the majority of routine chemistry without technologist reviewnot Figure 1
  • A low volume rural laboratory that cannot justify on premises middleware servers and needs a cloud hosted rules enginenot Figure 1
  • A multi site laboratory network that needs identical autoverification rules applied consistently across every site, which REMISOL Advance is built fornot Figure 1
  • A laboratory whose LIS cannot express delta checks or repeat rules and needs that logic to live in middleware insteadnot Figure 1

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Beckman Coulter DxONE

  • The rules and quality control workflows are tuned to Beckman analysers, so laboratories with a mixed Roche, Abbott and Siemens fleet get materially less coverage and typically buy vendor neutral middleware such as Data Innovations Instrument Manager instead.
  • Pricing is bundled into analyser and reagent contracts rather than itemised, so a laboratory cannot compare the informatics cost against a standalone middleware quote and often does not know what it is paying for the software.
  • Because the software is tied to a reagent rental term, the real cost of switching middleware is the remaining years of the reagent commitment, not a software renewal, which locks the laboratory in far longer than a software contract would.
  • DxONE Workflow Manager and REMISOL Advance are different products with different rule engines rather than one product at two sizes, so a laboratory that grows out of Workflow Manager faces a migration and rule rewrite, not an upgrade.
  • Interface builds to the hospital LIS are professional services work quoted per interface, and laboratories consistently underestimate this line, particularly where the LIS is an older Sunquest or SCC installation.

Questions people ask

Is Beckman Coulter DxONE or Figure 1 better?
Neither clearly leads. Beckman Coulter DxONE starts at On request and Figure 1 at Free, and user ratings are close enough to be indistinguishable. Choose on capability and platform support.
Which is cheaper, Beckman Coulter DxONE or Figure 1?
Figure 1 has a free tier; the other does not. Paid plans start at On request for Beckman Coulter DxONE and Free for Figure 1.
Does Beckman Coulter DxONE or Figure 1 run on more platforms?

Can I use Figure 1 for free?
Yes. Figure 1 has a free tier, so you can try it without paying. Beckman Coulter DxONE starts at On request.
What is Beckman Coulter DxONE best used for?
Beckman Coulter DxONE is most often used for a hospital laboratory standardising on beckman dxc and dxi analysers that wants autoverification to release the majority of routine chemistry without technologist review, a low volume rural laboratory that cannot justify on premises middleware servers and needs a cloud hosted rules engine, a multi site laboratory network that needs identical autoverification rules applied consistently across every site, which remisol advance is built for, a laboratory whose lis cannot express delta checks or repeat rules and needs that logic to live in middleware instead. Of those, a hospital laboratory standardising on beckman dxc and dxi analysers that wants autoverification to release the majority of routine chemistry without technologist review and a low volume rural laboratory that cannot justify on premises middleware servers and needs a cloud hosted rules engine are not what Figure 1 is typically brought in for.
What can Beckman Coulter DxONE do that Figure 1 cannot?
Beckman Coulter DxONE covers DxONE Command Central, DxONE Workflow Manager, REMISOL Advance, DxONE Inventory Manager. Figure 1 covers Case Sharing, Secure Messaging, Image Upload, Knowledge Discovery.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

Beckman Coulter DxONE: Can I buy DxONE without buying Beckman analysers?

Not realistically. It is quoted as part of an instrument or reagent agreement and its value is in the depth of integration with Beckman platforms. A laboratory with other analysers should look at vendor neutral middleware.

Beckman Coulter DxONE: Is DxONE the same as REMISOL Advance?

No. REMISOL Advance is the on premises middleware for higher volume and multi site laboratories. DxONE Workflow Manager is a separate cloud product aimed at low volume laboratories. They are not the same rule engine.

Beckman Coulter DxONE: Does Beckman publish pricing?

No. Everything is quoted, and the software cost is usually folded into a cost per reportable result on a reagent contract rather than shown as a licence fee.

Beckman Coulter DxONE: Is DxONE a regulated medical device?

The middleware components carry regulatory registrations that vary by product and region. Autoverification of diagnostic results is a regulated function, so confirm the specific clearance for the module and country before deployment.
