Overview
What MoI (Moment of Inspiration) does
MoI is a NURBS surface and solid modelling application aimed at designers, jewellers, concept artists and product people rather than at engineering departments. Modelling is direct, without a parametric history tree, and the interface is deliberately small: a pen-friendly command list rather than a ribbon of panels. Two things keep it in use. The first is the licence model. MoI is bought outright per major version with paid upgrades, in a CAD market that has moved almost entirely to subscription, and it makes no demands on hardware, so it runs comfortably on machines that will not start a modern CAD package. The second is its mesh export. MoI produces unusually clean quad-dominant meshes from NURBS geometry, which is why concept artists and product visualisers keep it beside Rhino purely to convert CAD surfaces into something usable in a polygon application. The buyer is an individual or a very small studio doing form-led modelling. The trade-off is that it stops well short of an engineering tool. There is no history, no assemblies and no drawing output, and it is maintained by one developer, so releases arrive years apart and there is no support organisation behind it.
