What Leica Infinity does

Leica Infinity is the office half of a Leica survey workflow. It imports raw observations from digital levels, total stations, GNSS receivers, UAVs and laser scanners, adjusts and processes them, and lets a surveyor build surfaces, compute volumes, compare epochs and export to CAD, GIS and BIM. Data flows both ways: jobs, control and stakeout points are prepared in the office and pushed to Captivate on the instrument. The distinguishing feature is that a single project holds every sensor type. On a job where the control network was measured with a total station, the topography with GNSS, the facade with a scanner and the stockpiles with a drone, Infinity keeps them in one coordinate framework and one adjustment rather than in four applications with export steps between them. That is a genuine time saving on mixed-sensor jobs and the main reason Leica instrument owners buy it rather than using a generic CAD package. Buyers are surveying firms and construction contractors already invested in Leica hardware. The trade-off is exactly that lock-in. Infinity is modular and Leica does not publish prices, so the cost of the configuration you actually need only emerges from a dealer quote, and the software is much happier with Leica raw data than with a competitor’s. A firm running mixed Leica and Trimble fleets will find one of them second-class whichever office package it picks.

Where it falls short

Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Leica Infinity.

Leica publishes no pricing at all and sells through dealers, so identical firms in different regions pay different rates for the same modules and cannot benchmark a quote.
It is modular, which means the advertised capability list is not what you get: sensor and processing modules are licensed separately and the useful configuration costs considerably more than the entry one.
Third-party instrument data is supported but always second-class; a mixed Leica and Trimble fleet will have one manufacturer’s raw data going through a lossier import path.
Windows only, with no macOS, Linux or browser option, which is a hard constraint for organisations moving field and office work to tablets or cloud desktops.
Perpetual licences require an ongoing customer care contract to receive updates and support, so the perpetual option saves less over five years than it first appears.
