What Foundation Software does
Foundation Software sells FOUNDATION, an accounting and job costing package written specifically for construction contractors. It covers general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, job costing, payroll, equipment costing, scheduling, service dispatch, project management and executive dashboards, with a mobile app for field time entry. It is sold as a hosted cloud product or installed on the contractor's own server. What separates it from generic accounting is payroll compliance. Contractors on publicly funded work must file certified payroll reports proving prevailing wage rates, and union contractors must calculate fringe benefits, dues and multiple trade rates per employee, sometimes several rates in a single day. Foundation calculates these natively and generates the state and federal report formats, which is why it holds contractors who would otherwise be perfectly served by cheaper software. Get this wrong and you fail an audit or lose the ability to bid public work. The buyer is a mid-sized specialty or general contractor in the United States, typically with union or prevailing wage exposure, with revenue large enough to justify a bookkeeping team.
