Vite: The dev server and build tool that uses esbuild internally, and what most projects actually adopt
Overview
esbuild is a JavaScript bundler and minifier written in Go, built to be dramatically faster than the JavaScript-based tools that preceded it. The speed comes from being compiled, parallel across cores, and deliberately doing less work per pass. It is now more often a component than a product: Vite uses esbuild for dependency pre-bundling and transforms. Using it directly makes sense when build speed dominates and the plugin ecosystem is not needed.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about esbuild.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Yes, open source under the MIT licence.
No. It strips types for speed and does not check them. Run tsc separately if you need type checking.
You already have it. Vite uses esbuild internally for dependency pre-bundling and transforms.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for esbuild, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it. Tell us if any of it is wrong.
