One API for small business accounting, banking and commerce data
As of 31 August 2026, Codat's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Codat normalises data from QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite and similar into one model so lenders and banks can underwrite a small business without asking for PDFs. Softwr lists it under APIs. Codat is made by Codat Limited, available on API, Web.
Overview
Codat is a data platform for small business financial information. It connects to accounting packages, banking, commerce and payroll systems used by small firms, retrieves invoices, bills, ledgers, chart of accounts, transactions and sales data, and presents them through one normalised API so the consuming product does not have to learn each source individually. On top of that it offers products aimed at specific jobs: lending, where the data supports underwriting and monitoring; supplier onboarding; and business account verification. What distinguishes it is the normalisation and the vertical framing. Every accounting system models a bill or a journal slightly differently, and the work of reconciling those models is the thing a lender does not want to build. Codat sells the reconciliation rather than the raw connectors, and packages it as underwriting and monitoring products rather than as a data pipe, which is why its customers are commercial banks, payment companies and business lenders rather than developers building sundry integrations. The buyer is an enterprise financial services team. There are two trade offs worth stating. First, pricing is opaque and enterprise shaped, which sits awkwardly with an API product that developers expect to trial. Second, and more consequential, the underlying platforms are asserting control over their own developer ecosystems: Xero is introducing tiered usage based developer pricing from 2 March 2026, with tiers keyed to the number of customer connections an app holds. That cost lands somewhere in the chain between the platform, Codat and you, and any multi-year model of unit economics built before it should be rebuilt.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Codat.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

Xero is introducing a tiered, usage based developer pricing model effective 2 March 2026, with tiers based on the number of customer connections an app holds. That is a new cost in the chain for anyone reading Xero data at scale, whether directly or through Codat.
Yes. It supports pushing bills, payments and journal entries into accounting systems, not only reading from them.
No. It is quoted by connected companies, data types and products, and users consistently describe it as opaque.
Not entirely. It covers banking alongside accounting and commerce, but lenders commonly run it beside a bank aggregator for transaction level cash flow.
