What Adobe Bridge does
Adobe Bridge is a file browser rather than a catalogue. It previews and organises photographs, PSD, AI, INDD, PDF and video files from folders on disk, supports star ratings, labels, keywords and metadata templates, performs batch renaming, and hands files off to Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Camera Raw. It is free to anyone with an Adobe account, including accounts with no paid subscription attached. The qualification on that free label is the important part. Bridge previews and edits Camera Raw settings only when Camera Raw is present, and Camera Raw ships with Photoshop and Lightroom Classic rather than with Bridge, so a user with no Adobe subscription gets a browser that cannot develop a raw file. Its other advantage, native preview of Illustrator and InDesign documents, is worthless outside those applications. Free is therefore accurate but conditional: the value comes from software you are already paying for. It is used by designers and photographers inside Creative Cloud who need to see a mixed folder of assets before opening anything, and by studios doing bulk renaming and metadata stamping on ingest. The trade-off is that it has no database, so browsing a disconnected drive or searching an offline archive is not possible, and Adobe invests in it only lightly.
