Aftershoot: If you want unlimited processing bundled with editing and retouching for one flat fee

AI photo culling with a low-cost entry tier, scaling to advanced editing and multi-user studio plans
As of 1 September 2026, Narrative Select's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A standalone AI culling application, not a Lightroom plugin, with a cheap basic culling tier that expands into paid tiers for AI editing depth and multiple studio user seats, so the entry price understates what most working photographers actually need. Softwr lists it under Photography. Narrative Select is made by Narrative, available on Windows, macOS.
Overview
Narrative Select is a desktop application that imports a shoot and uses machine learning to assess focus, exposure, closed eyes and blinks, and duplicate framing, surfacing a shortlist of the best images for the photographer to confirm. Unlike Aftershoot or Imagen AI, it runs as its own standalone catalogue rather than as a Lightroom plugin, so it can be used before deciding which editor to send selects to. The pricing structure runs in four tiers: Lite from around 10 US dollars a month covers basic culling only, Standard from around 20 US dollars adds basic AI editing, Premium from around 40 US dollars adds advanced AI editing, and Ultra from around 60 US dollars adds more editing profiles and, in its studio form, unlimited advanced culling and editing across up to four users. A solo photographer who only wants culling can genuinely pay the 10 US dollar entry price, but anyone wanting AI editing on top, which is most working photographers actual need, moves quickly into the 20 to 40 US dollar range. Buyers are wedding and event photographers choosing a culling-first workflow that is not tied to Lightroom, and small studios wanting several people to share one subscription editing profiles. The trade-off is that, like Imagen AI and Aftershoot, this is a recurring subscription with no perpetual option, and the AI models depend on staying current, so the vendor is explicit that there is no one-time payment path.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Narrative Select.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.
