The short version

  • Each has a real cost: Beckman Coulter DxONE the rules and quality control workflows are tuned to Beckman analysers, so laboratories with a mixed Roche, Abbott and Siemens fleet get materially less coverage and typically buy vendor neutral middleware such as Data Innovations Instrument Manager instead.; Meru Health the programme is twelve weeks and then it ends, which fits an episode of treatment but not a chronic condition needing maintenance, so relapse after week twelve lands on whatever pathway the buyer has funded next, if any.
  • They diverge on capability: Beckman Coulter DxONE covers DxONE Command Central, Meru Health covers Twelve week structured programme.
  • Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

What people use each for

The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.

Beckman Coulter DxONE

  • A hospital laboratory standardising on Beckman DxC and DxI analysers that wants autoverification to release the majority of routine chemistry without technologist reviewnot Meru Health
  • A low volume rural laboratory that cannot justify on premises middleware servers and needs a cloud hosted rules enginenot Meru Health
  • A multi site laboratory network that needs identical autoverification rules applied consistently across every site, which REMISOL Advance is built fornot Meru Health
  • A laboratory whose LIS cannot express delta checks or repeat rules and needs that logic to live in middleware insteadnot Meru Health

Meru Health

  • A health plan that wants a mental health intervention it can underwrite as a bounded episode rather than an open ended benefitnot Beckman Coulter DxONE
  • An employer whose staff need treatment rather than wellbeing content, with a therapist and a prescriber in one pathwaynot Beckman Coulter DxONE
  • A member who needs medication review alongside therapy, which most app based mental health products cannot providenot Beckman Coulter DxONE
  • A health system seeking to offload moderate depression and anxiety from a psychiatry service with long waitsnot Beckman Coulter DxONE

Where each one falls short

Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.

Beckman Coulter DxONE

  • The rules and quality control workflows are tuned to Beckman analysers, so laboratories with a mixed Roche, Abbott and Siemens fleet get materially less coverage and typically buy vendor neutral middleware such as Data Innovations Instrument Manager instead.
  • Pricing is bundled into analyser and reagent contracts rather than itemised, so a laboratory cannot compare the informatics cost against a standalone middleware quote and often does not know what it is paying for the software.
  • Because the software is tied to a reagent rental term, the real cost of switching middleware is the remaining years of the reagent commitment, not a software renewal, which locks the laboratory in far longer than a software contract would.
  • DxONE Workflow Manager and REMISOL Advance are different products with different rule engines rather than one product at two sizes, so a laboratory that grows out of Workflow Manager faces a migration and rule rewrite, not an upgrade.
  • Interface builds to the hospital LIS are professional services work quoted per interface, and laboratories consistently underestimate this line, particularly where the LIS is an older Sunquest or SCC installation.

Meru Health

  • The programme is twelve weeks and then it ends, which fits an episode of treatment but not a chronic condition needing maintenance, so relapse after week twelve lands on whatever pathway the buyer has funded next, if any.
  • Whether the employer, the health plan or the member pays depends on the contract route, and members frequently do not know which applies to them until they receive a bill or discover they do not.
  • A structured programme demands daily engagement, and members who cannot sustain that get much less than the outcome data implies, because the published results reflect members who completed.
  • The heart rate variability device is a differentiator but also a logistics and support burden, adding shipping, returns and device support to what would otherwise be a software deployment.
  • Meru is small relative to Lyra, Spring Health and the large payer owned behavioural health offerings, so an employer choosing it takes on more vendor concentration risk in a category that has seen frequent consolidation.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages

Beckman Coulter DxONE: Can I buy DxONE without buying Beckman analysers?

Not realistically. It is quoted as part of an instrument or reagent agreement and its value is in the depth of integration with Beckman platforms. A laboratory with other analysers should look at vendor neutral middleware.

Meru Health: Is Meru Health still operating?

Yes. It launched Meru Health Advanced in May 2026 and expanded its Harvard Pilgrim Health Care collaboration in 2025. It has not wound down.

Beckman Coulter DxONE: Is DxONE the same as REMISOL Advance?

No. REMISOL Advance is the on premises middleware for higher volume and multi site laboratories. DxONE Workflow Manager is a separate cloud product aimed at low volume laboratories. They are not the same rule engine.

Meru Health: How long is the programme?

Around twelve weeks. It is a bounded treatment episode rather than open ended therapy, which is why health plans will contract for it.

Beckman Coulter DxONE: Does Beckman publish pricing?

No. Everything is quoted, and the software cost is usually folded into a cost per reportable result on a reagent contract rather than shown as a licence fee.

Meru Health: Who pays?

It depends on the contract. Meru sells to both health plans and employers, and member cost sharing differs between those routes. Confirm which applies before enrolling.

Beckman Coulter DxONE: Is DxONE a regulated medical device?

The middleware components carry regulatory registrations that vary by product and region. Autoverification of diagnostic results is a regulated function, so confirm the specific clearance for the module and country before deployment.

Meru Health: Does it include medication?

Psychiatric consultation is part of the programme where medication is indicated, which distinguishes it from app plus coaching products that cannot prescribe.
