The short version
- Each has a real cost: Bruno native Git integration, the feature that distinguishes it from cloud API clients, is Pro only at $6 per user per month; Jest since moving to OpenJS Foundation governance, release cadence and headline feature development have visibly slowed compared to when a dedicated Meta team drove the roadmap.
- They diverge on capability: Bruno covers API Testing, Jest covers Zero-config test runner.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

Jest
- A React or general JavaScript project wanting a zero-configuration test runner with mocking and snapshot testing built innot Bruno
- A team that wants confidence in long-term maintenance because the project sits under a vendor-neutral foundation rather than one companynot Bruno
- An existing Jest codebase deciding whether to migrate to Vitest for a Vite-based build, weighing migration cost against Vitest's faster ESM-native startupnot Bruno
- A team standardising on one test runner across many JavaScript repositories without paying a per-seat or per-project licence feenot Bruno
Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Bruno
- Native Git integration, the feature that distinguishes it from cloud API clients, is Pro only at $6 per user per month
- OpenAPI syncs are capped at 5 a month on the free tier
- SSO, SCIM and user management require Ultimate at $11 per user per month
- Private workspaces are a paid feature
- Advertised prices are annual rates
Jest
- Since moving to OpenJS Foundation governance, release cadence and headline feature development have visibly slowed compared to when a dedicated Meta team drove the roadmap.
- Jest's architecture predates native ES modules, and using it inside a Vite-based or fully ESM project often needs extra configuration that Vitest, built ESM-first, does not require.
- Snapshot tests are easy to write and easy to approve blindly, and teams that do not review snapshot diffs carefully end up with tests that pass without actually verifying behaviour.
- Test suite startup and transform time is slower than Vitest's on large codebases, because Jest transforms files with Babel or ts-jest rather than using a native ESM-first pipeline.
- Being free and open source, there is no vendor support contract or SLA; production-critical reliance on Jest depends entirely on volunteer and community maintainer availability.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Bruno: What is included in Bruno's free tier?
The Open Source plan includes the core API client, limited Git integration, and up to 2 workspaces at no cost. A 14-day free trial of the Ultimate plan is also available without requiring a credit card.
SourceJest: Who maintains Jest now that it is not a Meta project?
The OpenJS Foundation, the same body hosting Node.js and Electron, with day-to-day maintenance led by community contributors rather than a Meta team.
Bruno: What is the difference between Bruno Pro and Ultimate plans?
Pro ($6/month) includes native Git integration and unlimited workspaces. Ultimate ($11/month) adds SSO/SCIM support, audit logs, 24-hour support (vs. 48-hour), and an account manager. Ultimate supports unlimited OpenAPI syncs while Pro is limited to 5 per month.
SourceJest: Is there a paid or enterprise version of Jest?
No. It is entirely open source with no licence fee, paid tier or enterprise edition.
Bruno: How much does Bruno Pro save compared to other API tools?
The vendor claims Ultimate saves teams more than 70% versus Postman, though this comparison is promotional rather than a specific cost metric.
SourceJest: Should a new project use Jest or Vitest?
For a Vite-based build, Vitest is generally the more natural fit; for an existing Jest codebase or a non-Vite setup, Jest remains a reasonable default.
