Danaos Management Consultants sells WAVES, a ship management suite for owners and managers. It covers planned maintenance and defect management, purchasing and procurement from requisition to invoice, spare parts and stores inventory, crewing with certificates, payroll and manning agent workflow, safety and quality management including incidents, audits and non-conformities, dry-docking, budgets and management accounting. Vessels run local installations that replicate with shore, which is how the system copes with satellite bandwidth. The distinguishing characteristic is architectural, and it cuts both ways. Everything sits in one database, so a purchase requisition raised from a maintenance job carries the equipment reference through to the invoice and into the vessel budget without an interface. Owners who have run separate best-of-breed procurement and maintenance products know what that reconciliation costs, and the single database is the reason they move. The same design means partial adoption is unusual: taking only the planned maintenance module and keeping procurement elsewhere gives away most of the reason to buy it, and replacing one module later means unpicking the suite. The buyers are Greek and Cypriot owners and third-party managers first, and international managers with a Piraeus office second. Regional concentration is the practical trade-off. Sales, implementation and support strength follow the Eastern Mediterranean, so an owner in Northern Europe or Asia gets a thinner local bench and fewer nearby references. Public documentation is sparse, so evaluation depends almost entirely on vendor demonstrations and reference calls, and buyers should note that the Danaos name also belongs to a Piraeus containership owner; the software business is a separate entity and the contract is with the software company.
