Overview
Beyond Identity provides passwordless, phishing-resistant authentication using private keys stored in the hardware secure enclave of the user device. There is no password, no one-time code and no push notification, which removes the credential categories that phishing and MFA fatigue attacks depend on. At each authentication it also evaluates device posture, checking things like disk encryption, firewall state, operating system patch level and endpoint detection agent presence, and denies access when the device falls out of policy. The commercially distinguishing point is the combination. Plenty of vendors sell passkeys and plenty sell device posture; enforcing posture at the authentication event means an out-of-compliance laptop cannot get a session at all, rather than being flagged in a report someone reads next week. That is what appeals to organisations whose incidents came through contractor or bring-your-own devices. Buyers are security teams at technology companies, financial services and organisations recovering from a credential-based breach. The trade-off is architectural: Beyond Identity is an authenticator, not a full identity provider, so it typically federates with Okta, Microsoft Entra ID or Ping. You keep paying for the identity provider and add this on top, and the combined per-user cost is what should go into the comparison.
