Figma: If prototypes are click-through reviews of static screens rather than behaviour specifications

Prototyping and specification tool for conditional, data-driven interfaces
As of 31 August 2026, Axure RP's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. Built for the part of UX where the deliverable is a documented behaviour specification, not a picture. Softwr lists it under Design. Axure RP is made by Axure Software Solutions, available on Windows, macOS, Web.
Overview
Axure RP builds interactive prototypes with variables, conditional logic, mathematical expressions and repeaters bound to data sets, and generates annotated specifications from the same file. Prototypes publish to Axure Cloud or to a self-hosted HTML bundle, and Axure Cloud for Business can be deployed on customer infrastructure. What distinguishes it commercially is the specification output combined with on-premises hosting. Organisations that hand interface work to an external development contractor need a document that states exactly how the interface behaves under every condition, and organisations in regulated or classified environments cannot publish prototypes to a vendor cloud at all. Axure is one of very few tools that serves both requirements, which is why it persists in defence, banking and public sector work long after mainstream design teams moved on. The pricing model changed with RP 10: Axure moved from perpetual licences to subscription, and older perpetual licences continue to run but do not receive new major versions. The trade-off for buyers is that the prototypes become software. A large file with variables and repeaters carries the maintenance burden of code with none of the version control, diffing or testing that code has.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Axure RP.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

No. Axure moved to subscription with RP 10. Existing perpetual licences keep working but do not receive new major versions.
Yes. Prototypes export as a self-contained HTML bundle, and Axure Cloud for Business can be deployed on customer infrastructure.
Only if you need conditional logic, data-bound components or generated specifications. For click-through review of static screens it adds cost without adding capability.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for Axure RP, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it. Tell us if any of it is wrong.
