The short version
- Each has a real cost: Florence eBinders pricing is set against how much your sponsors are expected to reimburse rather than a rate card, so two similar sites can pay materially different amounts and neither has a public benchmark to negotiate against.; Valispace the three-seat minimum means a solo consultant or a two-person startup pays for a seat nobody uses, roughly 3,000 US dollars a year before anyone logs in.
- They diverge on capability: Florence eBinders covers Electronic investigator site file, Valispace covers Live requirements.

Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Florence eBinders
- Pricing is set against how much your sponsors are expected to reimburse rather than a rate card, so two similar sites can pay materially different amounts and neither has a public benchmark to negotiate against.
- It is site-side only: it does not do electronic data capture, study budgeting or full trial management, so a research office still runs a CTMS and an EDC alongside it and pays for the interfaces between them.
- The benefit case depends on sponsors and monitors actually using remote access; if your sponsor mix insists on on-site source data verification, you have digitised the binder without removing the visits that made it expensive.
- Migrating years of existing paper and scanned regulatory documents into structured, indexed binders is a substantial one-off project that sites routinely underestimate and that is scoped and charged separately.
- Adoption is heavily United States centred, so a European or Asian site will find fewer sponsors familiar with the platform and less mature alignment with local regulatory expectations than a domestic site enjoys.
Valispace
- The three-seat minimum means a solo consultant or a two-person startup pays for a seat nobody uses, roughly 3,000 US dollars a year before anyone logs in.
- Ownership has changed twice in two years, from independent to Altium to Renesas by way of the Altium acquisition, and the technology has been repackaged as the Altium Requirements Portal, so the standalone roadmap is genuinely uncertain.
- It is not a certified DO-178C or ARP4754 toolchain component in the way established requirements databases are, so highly regulated aerospace programmes may still need a recognised tool alongside it.
- The parametric model rewards teams who structure their data properly at the start; teams that import a flat requirement list get a slower version of a document tool and none of the budget automation.
- Integration depth outside the Altium and Jira world is limited, so linking to an existing PLM or a CAD-driven mass properties source usually means writing against the Python API yourself.

Questions people ask
- Is Florence eBinders or Valispace better?
- Neither clearly leads. Florence eBinders starts at On request and Valispace at $999/year, and user ratings are close enough to be indistinguishable. Choose on capability and platform support.
- Which is cheaper, Florence eBinders or Valispace?
- Florence eBinders starts at On request and Valispace at $999/year.
- Does Florence eBinders or Valispace run on more platforms?
- Florence eBinders runs on Web. Valispace runs on Web, On-premise, API.
- What is Florence eBinders best used for?
- Florence eBinders is most often used for an academic medical centre research office replacing physical regulatory binders across dozens of concurrent studies, a site management organisation standardising delegation logs and training records across multiple locations, a site under audit pressure that needs to show a complete, time-stamped document history rather than a folder of signed paper, a research site whose sponsors keep requesting remote monitoring access and currently receive scanned documents by email. - What can Florence eBinders do that Valispace cannot?
- Florence eBinders covers Electronic investigator site file, Part 11 electronic signature, SiteLink remote monitoring, eSource. Valispace covers Live requirements, Budgets and margins, Component tree, Verification and validation.
Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Florence eBinders: Is this an EDC system?
No. It manages the site regulatory binder and source documents. Trial data capture is a separate system such as Medidata, Castor or REDCap.
Valispace: Who owns Valispace?
Altium acquired it in December 2023, and Renesas Electronics acquired Altium in 2024. It is therefore a Renesas-owned product, despite frequent reports elsewhere linking it to defence groups.
Florence eBinders: Who normally pays for it?
The site buys it, but sites commonly recover the cost through per-study sponsor budgets, and Florence prices with that expected reimbursement in mind.
Valispace: Is it the same thing as the Altium Requirements Portal?
They share a lineage. Requirements Portal is the Altium 365 packaging of Valispace technology. The standalone Valispace product is still sold with its own pricing.
Florence eBinders: Does it support 21 CFR Part 11?
Yes, with electronic signatures, audit trails and access controls. Validation for your intended use is still your responsibility.
Valispace: What does it actually cost?
999 US dollars per user per year with a minimum of three users, billed annually. Enterprise with on-premise deployment is quoted separately.
Florence eBinders: Can sponsors see our documents?
Only what you grant through SiteLink. Documents stay under site control rather than in a sponsor-owned repository.
Valispace: Can it replace a requirements database like DOORS?
For small and mid-sized hardware programmes, often yes. For programmes with contractual tool mandates, no.
