The short version
- Each has a real cost: GAMAYA the product is now effectively sugarcane specific, so growers of anything other than cane or grapes will find little of the original broad crop coverage left.; Teralytic the company is reported at around six employees, so if it stops trading the buried probes become inert hardware, which is the single biggest risk in a multi-year soil sensing deployment.
- They diverge on capability: GAMAYA covers CanaSight, Teralytic covers Wireless NPK sensing.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
GAMAYA
- The product is now effectively sugarcane specific, so growers of anything other than cane or grapes will find little of the original broad crop coverage left.
- The 2024 merger with Terraview means the company, product line and roadmap differ substantially from the Gamaya that raised money as a hyperspectral imaging startup, and older references describe a business that no longer exists.
- Much of the commercial value is tied to Brazil's RenovaBio scheme, so a change in CBIO prices or programme rules would cut the return calculation directly and is entirely outside the vendor's control.
- No pricing is published at any tier, and with an enterprise sales motion aimed at mills, a single grower has little chance of a fast or cheap engagement.
- As a small European company selling into Brazil, India and southern Africa, local support depth and language coverage are stretched, and implementation depends on partners rather than the vendor.
Teralytic
- The company is reported at around six employees, so if it stops trading the buried probes become inert hardware, which is the single biggest risk in a multi-year soil sensing deployment.
- No current pricing is published and reported figures have moved between roughly 300 and 500 US dollars per probe per year, so a buyer cannot model the cost of a hundred-probe deployment without a quote.
- The subscription is mandatory for the probe to report at all, so the up-front hardware payment buys nothing durable and a lapsed account means a field full of dead instruments.
- In-field NPK sensing is scientifically contested and readings need interpretation against soil type and calibration, so agronomists will not treat the numbers as interchangeable with a lab test and many will insist on both.
- Spatial coverage is the unsolved problem: a probe measures one point, soil varies over metres, and covering a field properly multiplies both the hardware and the annual subscription by the number of zones you care about.

Questions people ask
- Is GAMAYA or Teralytic better?
- Neither clearly leads. GAMAYA starts at On request and Teralytic at On request, and user ratings are close enough to be indistinguishable. Choose on capability and platform support.
- Which is cheaper, GAMAYA or Teralytic?
- GAMAYA starts at On request and Teralytic at On request.
- Does GAMAYA or Teralytic run on more platforms?
- GAMAYA runs on Web. Teralytic runs on Web, iOS, Android.
- What is GAMAYA best used for?
- GAMAYA is most often used for a brazilian sugarcane mill maximising certified cbios per hectare under renovabio, a large cane estate forecasting sugar content to sequence harvest blocks correctly, an irrigated cane operation in southern africa targeting water where the crop is actually stressed, a wine group monitoring vineyard blocks across multiple estates from one interface. Of those, a brazilian sugarcane mill maximising certified cbios per hectare under renovabio and a large cane estate forecasting sugar content to sequence harvest blocks correctly are not what Teralytic is typically brought in for.
- What can GAMAYA do that Teralytic cannot?
- GAMAYA covers CanaSight, CanaTrace, AquaView, Satellite crop monitoring. Teralytic covers Wireless NPK sensing, Three-depth profile, Soil respiration and aeration, Long-range radio uplink.
Answered from the vendors’ own pages
GAMAYA: Is Gamaya still in business?
Yes. Gamaya merged with Terraview in July 2024 and the combined company trades as GAMAYA from Winterthur, Switzerland.
Teralytic: Can I buy the probe without a subscription?
No. The probe reports through Teralytic’s network into its cloud, and without an active subscription it does not deliver data.
GAMAYA: What crops does it cover?
Sugarcane primarily, with grapes from the Terraview side. The broad multi-crop hyperspectral ambition of the earlier company is gone.
Teralytic: Does it replace lab soil tests?
No. It gives continuous in-season trend data. Most agronomists will still want lab results for absolute nutrient values and for compliance records.
GAMAYA: What is CanaTrace for?
Streamlining RenovaBio certification in Brazil, where increased certified CBIOs per hectare have a directly monetisable value.
Teralytic: How much does it cost?
Teralytic does not publish current pricing. Reported figures have ranged from roughly 300 to 500 US dollars per probe per year including hardware and connectivity.
GAMAYA: What does it cost?
Nothing is published. It is quoted by hectares under management and sold mainly to mills and large estates.
Teralytic: How many probes does a field need?
That depends on soil variability. One probe represents one point, so a field with several distinct soil zones needs one per zone to be meaningful.
