- Third-party vendors ship .deb packages and RPMs built for RHEL first, so openSUSE users regularly install from the Open Build Service or a community repository instead of a supported vendor package.
- Patent policy keeps many media codecs out of the official repositories, so a usable desktop normally means adding the Packman repository and managing vendor changes between the two.

- Battery life is substantially shorter than the same laptop running a conventional Linux install, because several VMs and their drivers are running continuously.
- Backups are whole-VM images rather than files, so restores are slow, storage requirements are large, and pulling a single document out of a backup is more work than it should be.

openSUSE: Should I run Leap or Tumbleweed?
Tumbleweed for a workstation where you want current packages and will use snapshots. Leap for servers and for anything where you would rather patch quarterly than weekly.
Qubes OS: Will it run on my laptop?
Check the hardware compatibility list first, and prefer a certified model. VT-x or AMD-V alone is not enough; you need VT-d or AMD-Vi as well, and many consumer machines either omit it or implement it badly.
openSUSE: Is Leap going away?
No, but it changed foundations. Leap 16 is built on SUSE Linux Enterprise 16, drops YaST and raises the CPU baseline. Plan the upgrade as a migration rather than a routine version bump.
Qubes OS: Can I run Windows in a qube?
Yes, with Qubes Windows Tools, but the integration is less complete than the Linux templates and has historically broken across Windows updates. Treat it as a workaround, not a supported desktop.
