The engine is open source and free to self-host. Meilisearch Cloud is a paid managed service.
OpenAI API: Is my data used to train the models?
API inputs and outputs are not used for training by default, which differs from the consumer product. Retention periods and enterprise terms change, so read the current data usage policy rather than trusting a summary.
Meilisearch: Meilisearch or Elasticsearch?
Meilisearch is far simpler for application search and works well by default. Elasticsearch is the choice when you also need log analytics and heavy aggregations.
