Sysmex

Haematology and urinalysis analysers sold with the middleware that decides which results a scientist ever sees

The short version
- Each has a real cost: Healthie the Core plan is capped at ten active clients, which no working practice stays under, so the real entry price for anyone with a caseload is the 49 dollar Essentials tier or higher.; Sysmex the middleware is not realistically separable from the instrument contract, so a laboratory that likes Caresphere but wants another vendor analyser has no clean path to buying just the software.
- They diverge on capability: Healthie covers Active client based tiers, Sysmex covers Caresphere autovalidation.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.
Where they differ

What people use each for
The jobs each tool is most often brought in to do.
Healthie
- A registered dietitian in private practice who needs charting, scheduling, superbills and a client food journal in one subscriptionnot Sysmex
- A virtual care startup using the API as a compliant clinical backend rather than building charting and scheduling from scratchnot Sysmex
- A wellness group practice selling packaged twelve week programmes with group video sessions and course contentnot Sysmex
- A health coaching business that bills clients directly and needs card payment, intake forms and messaging without insurance complexitynot Sysmex
Sysmex
- A hospital network standardising full blood count reporting across six laboratories so a result released at a district hospital carries the same rules as the tertiary centrenot Healthie
- A pathology group trying to raise autovalidation rates to absorb rising demand without recruiting more biomedical scientistsnot Healthie
- A blood sciences service consolidating haematology, coagulation and urinalysis onto one middleware layer to remove three separate QC workflowsnot Healthie
- A laboratory running 24 hour service that needs remote analyser telemetry so an overnight fault is triaged before the morning shift arrivesnot Healthie
Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Healthie
- The Core plan is capped at ten active clients, which no working practice stays under, so the real entry price for anyone with a caseload is the 49 dollar Essentials tier or higher.
- Insurance billing is not native: claim submission runs through a separately priced ClaimMD integration starting around 30 dollars a month, so a practice that bills payers is buying and reconciling two systems.
- Costs stack quickly beyond the headline plan, with ePrescribing at 40 dollars per clinician per month, inbound fax at 10 dollars, additional Group clinicians at 50 dollars each and card processing at 2.9 per cent plus 30 cents.
- Client counting is based on active clients, and the definition of active is set by the vendor rather than by you, so seasonal or intermittent caseloads can push a practice into a higher tier for clients it is barely seeing.
- It is built around ambulatory wellness and virtual care, so specialties needing lab ordering, imaging, in house dispensing or complex care coordination will find the clinical model too thin and will not find those modules to buy.
Sysmex
- The middleware is not realistically separable from the instrument contract, so a laboratory that likes Caresphere but wants another vendor analyser has no clean path to buying just the software.
- Reagent rental agreements set a minimum annual test volume, and a laboratory whose activity falls after a service reconfiguration keeps paying against a floor it no longer reaches.
- Regulatory clearance is granted per parameter and per region, so a flag or extended parameter that a European laboratory relies on may not be released for clinical use on the same analyser in the United States.
- Interfacing to a non-Sysmex laboratory information system is a project, not a configuration step, and integration effort is often quoted separately from the instrument contract.
- Autovalidation rule sets are configured locally, so the gains depend entirely on whether the laboratory has the clinical governance capacity to write, validate and audit those rules; buying the software does not deliver the saving on its own.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Healthie: Is the API available without an enterprise contract?
Yes. API access is available on standard published plans, which is why digital health startups use it as a clinical backend.
Sysmex: Can I buy Caresphere without Sysmex analysers?
Not in practice. It is licensed as part of the instrument and reagent agreement, and its value depends on Sysmex-specific parameters and flags.
Healthie: Can Healthie submit insurance claims?
Only through the separately priced ClaimMD integration. Native CMS 1500 generation is included, but submission is an add-on.
Sysmex: Is Sysmex software FDA cleared?
Clearance attaches to the analysers and to individual reported parameters, not to the middleware as a whole. Check the specific parameter and the specific market, because clearances differ between the United States, Europe and Japan.
Healthie: What does an active client mean for billing?
It is a client with recent activity in the platform, not everyone in your database. Tiers are set by that count, not by seats.
Sysmex: How is it priced?
Per reportable result, or as a reagent rental with a minimum annual volume. There is no per user or per seat price.
Healthie: Is it HIPAA compliant?
Yes, and a business associate agreement is available. The client-facing mobile app and portal are covered.
Sysmex: What is the contract length?
Typically five to seven years, aligned to instrument depreciation, with reagent pricing fixed or indexed over the term.
