Overview
What mabl does
mabl records browser journeys through a Chromium based trainer application, then replays them on hosted runners against whichever environment you point it at. It also covers API tests, accessibility checks, broken link scans and mobile web, and reports results into Jira, Slack and the usual CI systems. It was founded in Boston in 2017 by two engineers who had previously worked on Google Cloud monitoring. The capability the whole product rests on is auto healing. When a selector no longer matches after a UI change, mabl attempts to re identify the element from the other attributes it captured and continues the run. That is the difference between a record and replay suite that survives a redesign and one that fails every test on the morning after a release. It is also the claim a buyer cannot verify from a demo, because a demo application does not change. The honest way to evaluate it is to run a trial against your own product across two or three real releases and count how many failures were genuine regressions rather than selector drift. Buyers are usually QA leads at mid sized software companies who have tried Selenium, found the maintenance cost unacceptable, and have no budget for automation specialists. The trade off is ownership. Playwright tests are code in your repository that any engineer can read and any CI system can run. mabl tests exist inside mabl, run on mabl infrastructure and are exported only as documentation, so the switching cost grows with every test you add.

- Debugging a failure happens inside a hosted runner you do not control, which makes flakiness caused by test data or environment timing harder to reproduce locally than with a suite you run yourself.
- Native mobile application coverage is thin compared with the browser product, so teams with an iOS or Android app still need a second tool such as Appium or Maestro.

Does auto healing actually work?

Is mabl a replacement for unit tests?
No. It covers end to end journeys through a running application. Unit and integration coverage still belongs in your repository.
