Frappe

Frappe is a full-stack, batteries-included web framework in Python with a MariaDB backend, released under the MIT licence. Its central idea is the DocType: you define a document model with fields, permissions, links and workflow as data, and the framework generates the database table, REST API, list and form views, permission checks, comments, versioning and background jobs from that definition. ERPNext, Frappe HR, Helpdesk, Insights and the rest of the Frappe app family are all built this way. Frappe Cloud is the commercial side: managed hosting for Frappe and ERPNext sites, with a marketplace of installable apps, automatic updates, backups, multi-region deployment and SSH access. Site plans start at $5 a month and dedicated server plans at $40 a month, with the identical tiers listed in Indian rupees, which makes it one of the few application platforms with proper first-class rupee pricing rather than a converted US figure. That matters to Indian and other price-sensitive buyers who otherwise pay a currency premium and card forex fees. Who buys it: teams building internal business applications who want the admin layer, permissions and API for free, and ERPNext users who want someone else to run the servers. The trade-off is opinionation. Frappe imposes its own ORM, templating, job queue and front-end conventions, so existing Python skills transfer only partially, the developer pool is small and concentrated in India, and moving off the framework later means rewriting rather than porting.
