Transcend: If the requirement is fulfilling subject requests across systems rather than exhaustively classifying an estate

Data discovery and classification across cloud, on-premise and unstructured stores
As of 31 August 2026, BigID's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. BigID scans data stores to find and classify sensitive data, including in unstructured files where most classification tools give up. Softwr lists it under Cybersecurity. BigID is made by BigID, Inc., available on Web, API, Self-hosted.
Overview
BigID is a data discovery, classification and intelligence platform. It connects to databases, data warehouses, object stores, file shares, SaaS applications and messaging systems, scans what is there and classifies personal, sensitive and regulated data, then attaches that classification to downstream use cases: privacy subject requests, data security posture management, access governance, retention and, more recently, control over what data feeds AI systems. The company is headquartered in New York. The distinguishing capability is unstructured discovery. Classifying a column called email_address in a Postgres table is not difficult; identifying national insurance numbers scattered in PDFs and spreadsheets on a fifteen year old file share, and correlating them back to a named individual, is where most programmes fail, and it is BigID’s original correlation approach. This matters commercially because the compliance obligations that create budget, deletion, retention and breach notification, all depend on knowing which files relate to which person, and a tool that only reads structured schemas cannot answer that. Buyers are large regulated enterprises, most often the data governance or security team rather than legal. The trade offs are cost and operational weight. Pricing is by data source and volume with reported contracts from roughly 15,000 to 175,000 US dollars a year, several modules including AI security posture are licensed separately, and scanning very large unstructured estates is slow and computationally expensive enough that organisations sample rather than scan fully. It is also a discovery platform, not a remediation one; it tells you where the data is and then something else has to act.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about BigID.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

On request
Capabilities
Structured and unstructured scanning
Discovers and classifies data in databases, warehouses, object stores, file shares and SaaS applications
Identity correlation
Links discovered data back to specific individuals rather than only labelling data types
Data security posture management
Flags overexposed, stale and misconfigured sensitive data stores
Access intelligence
Shows who can reach sensitive data and where entitlements exceed need
Privacy request support
Feeds subject access and deletion workflows with the locations of a person’s data
Retention and minimisation
Identifies data past its retention period and candidate stores for deletion
AI data controls
Governs which classified data may be used by models and retrieval systems, licensed separately
Policy and remediation workflow
Routes findings to owners for action rather than acting directly

It is quoted by data source count and volume. Reported contracts run from roughly 15,000 to 175,000 US dollars a year, and add-on modules such as AI security posture are licensed on top.
Yes, and that is its main advantage. It classifies data in files and shares and correlates findings back to individuals, not just to data types.
Not by itself in most deployments. It identifies and routes findings; deletion and remediation happen through your own processes or connected systems.
Both are sold from the same discovery core. Buyers increasingly come from security wanting data security posture management rather than from legal wanting privacy.

Softwr does not host reviews and shows no star rating for BigID, because a rating we did not collect is not ours to publish. What is here is the pricing and platform detail from the vendor’s own pages, limitations we could state concretely, and alternatives a reviewer confirmed people weigh against it.
