Adobe InDesign is the desktop publishing application professional print production is built around. Magazines, books, newspapers and catalogues are laid out in it, and commercial printers expect files from it. Its strengths are the ones long documents demand: master pages, paragraph and character styles that cascade through hundreds of pages, precise typographic control, and reliable PDF/X output. It also handles data merge for catalogues and variable-data print, and exports to EPUB alongside print.
