The short version
- Each has a real cost: Guidde the Business tier is capped at five creators, so a support or enablement team of eight is forced to Enterprise and a quoted price, which is a steep and unadvertised cliff between 39 US dollars a creator and an unknown number.; Outline the Business Source Licence is not an open source licence, so anyone planning to host Outline for clients, resell it or embed it in a commercial service is prohibited until the per-release change date passes, and this is regularly discovered only at legal review.
- They diverge on capability: Guidde covers Automatic step detection, Outline covers Structured collections.
- Prices and features above were last checked on 1 September 2026.

Where each one falls short
Documented limitations, not opinions. Every one is a constraint you would hit in normal use.
Guidde
- The Business tier is capped at five creators, so a support or enablement team of eight is forced to Enterprise and a quoted price, which is a steep and unadvertised cliff between 39 US dollars a creator and an unknown number.
- Text to voice generation, the feature that removes the audio recording barrier that is the main reason to buy Guidde, is not available on Pro at all and requires the Business tier.
- The free plan retains the Guidde watermark, so any customer facing use requires at least Pro, and the 25 video free allowance is really an evaluation window rather than a usable tier.
- Automatic step detection is reliable on conventional web interfaces and degrades on canvas based, drag and drop or heavily dynamic applications, where the generated steps need substantial manual correction.
- Translation, single sign on, content review workflows and PII redaction are all Enterprise only, which puts any regulated or multilingual organisation into a quoted contract regardless of team size.
Outline
- The Business Source Licence is not an open source licence, so anyone planning to host Outline for clients, resell it or embed it in a commercial service is prohibited until the per-release change date passes, and this is regularly discovered only at legal review.
- There is no local password authentication, so self-hosting requires an identity provider to be in place first, which turns a small internal wiki into a project with a dependency on Google, Okta, Entra or a Keycloak instance somebody has to run.
- Self-hosting needs Postgres, Redis and S3-compatible object storage together, so the operational footprint is larger than the single database most internal wikis require.
- The hosted plans offer no customer-selectable hosting region, so buyers with data residency obligations are pushed to self-hosting even when they would have paid to avoid running servers.
- It is built for internal knowledge rather than public documentation, with no versioned documentation sets, no static output and limited public publishing, so it will not serve as a product documentation site.
- Because it is a single-vendor project rather than a foundation-governed one, a future licence or pricing change applies to new releases and the only defence is staying on an older version.

Answered from the vendors’ own pages
Guidde: How much does Guidde cost?
Free for up to 25 videos, Pro at 19 US dollars per creator per month billed annually or 29 monthly, Business at 39 annually or 59 monthly for up to five creators, and Enterprise quoted.
Outline: Is Outline open source?
No, not in the OSI sense. It is source available under the Business Source Licence, which permits internal use and self-hosting but not offering it as a service to others, with each release converting to an open source licence after its change date.
Guidde: Is there a creator limit?
Yes. Business is capped at five creators. Above that you are into Enterprise and a quoted price, which is the main pricing surprise for growing teams.
Outline: Can I run it for free?
Yes, for your own organisation. Self-hosting carries no licence fee, only the cost of running Postgres, Redis, object storage and an identity provider.
Guidde: Do I need to record my voice?
No, and that is the point. Text to voice generation produces the narration, so it can be edited as text later. It requires the Business tier.
Outline: Can I choose where the hosted version stores data?
No. The hosted plans do not offer a region choice, so residency requirements mean self-hosting.
Guidde: Does it work on any application?
It works well on conventional web interfaces. Canvas based, drag and drop and heavily dynamic applications produce step detection that needs manual correction.
Outline: Does it work for public product documentation?
Poorly. It has no versioned documentation sets or static site output, so it is best kept for internal knowledge.
