containerd: Is containerd free?
Yes. It is an open-source CNCF graduated project with no licence fee.
Jitsu: Is Jitsu the same as Jitsi?
No. Jitsu is an open source event data pipeline. Jitsi is an unrelated video conferencing project.
containerd: Do I need containerd if I use Docker?
You already have it. Docker uses containerd underneath to run containers; it is not an alternative you install separately.
Jitsu: Can I self-host for free?
Yes. The project is MIT licensed with no usage limits when self-hosted.
containerd: Why did Kubernetes drop Docker for containerd?
Kubernetes talks to runtimes through the Container Runtime Interface. Docker did not speak CRI natively and needed a shim, so Kubernetes removed the shim and talks to containerd directly, which Docker was already using anyway.
Jitsu: How does the cost compare with Segment?
The Business plan is 99 US dollars a month for two million active events, where a per-tracked-user CDP typically costs orders of magnitude more at comparable volume.
containerd: Can containerd build images?
No. Image building is deliberately out of scope. Tools such as Buildah, BuildKit or Docker handle that.
Jitsu: Does Jitsu do identity resolution?
No. It transports and transforms events; identity stitching and audiences are not part of the product.
