Student information and school ERP for K-12 districts and municipalities
As of 31 August 2026, Skyward's pricing is not published; the vendor quotes on request. A K-12 student information system sold alongside a finance and HR suite by the same vendor, so districts run enrolment, payroll and the general ledger on one database. Softwr lists it under Education. Skyward is made by Skyward, Inc., available on Web, iOS, Android.
Overview
Skyward, Inc. sells two linked products to American school districts: Student Management Suite, which handles enrolment, scheduling, attendance, grading, state reporting and family portals, and School Business Suite, which covers general ledger, budgeting, purchasing, payroll and human resources. The cloud version is marketed as Qmlativ; the older client-server generation was branded PaC and districts are still being migrated off it. A municipal edition sells the finance and HR half to city and county governments. The distinguishing thing is single-vendor scope. Most districts buy an SIS from one company and an ERP from another, then pay an integrator to keep employee records, position control and payroll in sync. Skyward sells both on one data model, which removes a class of reconciliation work and makes position budgeting against the actual staffing table straightforward. That is worth real money in a district of several thousand employees, and it is why Skyward retains business against much larger rivals despite a narrower third-party app ecosystem. Buyers are mostly mid-sized and large public districts, concentrated in Wisconsin, Texas, Florida, Minnesota and Kansas where the state reporting packs are mature. The trade-off is regional depth versus breadth: if your state is well covered, compliance reporting is close to turnkey; if it is not, you are paying for a system whose reporting layer someone has to build out. Contracts are annual with multi-year terms common, and pricing is never published.
The honest half
Concrete and checkable, so you can decide whether any of them matter to you. This is the half of a review a vendor will not write about Skyward.
Cross-shopped
Each pairing was judged by two reviewers asking whether a buyer would genuinely weigh the two against each other. The ones that failed were deleted rather than published.

No. Skyward remains an independent company based in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and competes directly with PowerSchool in the K-12 SIS market. It is one of the few SIS vendors of scale not owned by a private equity roll-up.
Yes, the student system is generally quoted per student per year with the finance suite priced separately, but no rate card is published and discounts vary heavily by district size and term length.
Yes. School Business Suite is sold on its own, and there is a municipality edition for city and county government with no school component.
PaC is the older client-server generation and Qmlativ is the current browser-based product. New districts buy Qmlativ; existing PaC districts are being migrated.
