Overview
LatchBio provides a platform where scientists upload biological data and use AI agents to analyse it. The agent handles single cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, epigenomics and proteomics data, planning the analysis, writing and executing code, debugging its own failures and returning results and figures with an explanation in plain language. The company publishes benchmarks of agent performance on real biological datasets and sells white labelled analysis portals to assay and kit providers who want their customers to analyse results without building a bioinformatics team. The distinguishing point is the pivot itself. LatchBio originally sold a hosted workflow platform with a Python SDK for registering and running bioinformatics pipelines, aimed at replacing homegrown Nextflow deployments. It now leads with agents. It raised a large Series B in April 2026 on that positioning. For a buyer this matters commercially: a company that adopted the earlier workflow product is now a customer of a company whose attention is elsewhere, and a company evaluating it today is buying into an approach whose accuracy on its own data it has to verify. Buyers are biotech R&D groups without in house bioinformatics capacity, and assay and reagent vendors who want an analysis portal to attach to their kits. The trade-off is trust: an agent that writes its own analysis code produces results a scientist still has to be able to defend, and the organisations best placed to check the output are precisely the ones least likely to need the agent.
